Hello all, Im new to this forum. I have a JD 755 Compact with a 3-cylinder Yanmar diesel. The other day I went out to do some work with it and it would not start. Checked fuel level. All good. When I crank I get white exhaust. Any help greatly appreciated. By the way, this tractor always started in any temperature.
Thanks!!!

Well, first off, WELCOME!!!!
Now, the tractor, white smoke means it's getting fuel, just not enough to start on. Usually it means that either the manual (if it has one) engine stop has been pulled out, or the fuel shut off relay isn't working (either lack of power or just plain failed) and is preventing the fuel from building enough pressure to give it a large enough fuel load to start the engine.
Check the relay and the power supply and ground in its circuit.
Best of luck. ....

Hi Murf, Thanks for the Welcome!!! Thanks for replying to my post. I will check the solenoid. I watched it during cranking and it did retract(go in) during initial crank but then retracted during cranking thereafter, during the same cranking if that makes sense. Someone at my lab also said maybe one of the glow plugs was not working as well. Just a thought. At this point I'll try anything. Snow storm is coming our way Wednesday! I love this tractor and it has never let me down so this is puzzling to me. ....

Hey Murf, I forgot to mention that some times in the summer when I have run the tractor and go to re-start the fuel solenoid does not retract. If I push it in and go to start it starts right up. ....

Hello Jose,
I do not have a little black box under the seat but there is a small rectangular box mounted to the firewall. About 1 inch square by 3 inches tall. Is this what you are refering to? ....

I dont think thats it. Its a square box unless its a diffent style. The box that i took off had a wire harness with alot of wires on it with a big plastic connector its the brain to your tractor. The solienoid problem you are having was the same problem i had but my solienoid over heated twice cause of that box and ended up burning mine. If theres a metal panel under your seat look underneath to see if its not mounted under there. I know what your going through because i would put my finger in where that solienoid was at also a the tractor would start too but a wrang out the wires to that box according to the wiring diagrams JD sent me and it would tell that solienoid when to engage and disengage. Good luck and hope the info is helpful ....

I pulled all 3 glow plugs out and checked them. 2 out of 3 were burned out so I replaced them. Went to start and still no start. The crank speed was low so I charged the battery for a couple hours. Tried again and it fired right up. Ambient temp was 10 above zero. The problem was a combination of slow crank speed and 2 burned out glow pplugs. Problem solved! ....

Airpo;
Glad you got it going. I never had an engine with glow plugs, but I'm sure with an engine designed for them they need to work. A good robust cranking speed does wonders for any engine, especially a diesel. ....
