Hey there... just bought a used '03 TC29D and it's got a few electrical problems. Seems that everything works except the fuel gauge and the temperature gauge. All the dash lights work, and I just replaced all of the fuses, so I don't think its fuse related. Another problem I found is that the 10 amp fuse for the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid/Operator Seat Switch/Range Neutral Safety Start Switch (fuse block position # 5)keeps blowing on startup. Had to use a 20 amp to make it work. Finally, on occasion the Cold Start Indicator Light stays lit even after start up. When it finally goes out, there is a slightly noticeable increase in engine RPM. I've read a bit on this forum to know that these NH units have electrical gremlins, so I'm hoping maybe somebody has had a similar experience and can offer some advice. Wondering if part of the problem is ignition switch related? Can hear an occasional clicking sound (like a relay) switching on and off near the ignition. Look forward to your comments. Growing up in North Dakota, you might imagine that our local nightly news is pretty danged boring. After all, there is no crime to speak of; no terrorist attacks; no bank robberies either. The nightly news is composed of the little old ladies who are working hard to bring potential customers to a bake sale, as a form of charity for some young family who has a very sick child.

Every once in a while we hear of a local farmer who was killed in a farming accident, such as the old man who died on Christmas Eve, while giving his grandchildren a hay ride. He slipped off of the step of the tractor, and the tractor tire then rolled right over his chest -- in the presence of his entire family.

Tractor roll-overs aren't the most common causes of death on the farm. I've heard of several men who died after getting caught in hay balers, augers, and even crushed between the tractor and a building.

Roll-over protection structures won't prevent a man's leg from being severed by a grain auger. They won't prevent trucks from rolling over the driver. They won't prevent a cow from trampling its owner, either.

Every day of our lives, we face situations that could result in serious injury, or death. It is up to every one of us to provide for our own safety to the best of our ability. We aren't always successful, and most of us are lucky to be here to write in response to this topic.

I haven't made any myself, but a friend made some out of a used cooking oil/diesel fuel concoction containing other ingredients, like so many ounces of fuel stabilizer, some Power Service, and other things that I can't remember for sure now. He only made one batch, the mess was more than he wanted to deal with besides not being sure what it might do the the insides of his new Power Stroke.

Reading this has caused me to go humm. Have two tractors and one gear trans and one hydro. The hydro I pulled a few months ago and it did not fire to run (turned out to be problem with fuel cut off (manual one) the knob was bad and not opening for fuel flow. The engine did turn over and have used it a good bit since then and have noticed no problem in any manner. But it was not pulled far.

The tire dealer that has did all of our farm and car/pickup tires for years sells Miechlen and I think Cooper too, so I'll give him a call. Thanks for all the info. Frank.

First off, welcome!!! :)

As for your loader, it sounds like one of two possible problems.

First, and most likely, one of the quick disconnect fittings is not seated properly.

Secondly, the internal seals in the valve are leaking.

Start with checking all the quick disconnects.

I know this probably isn't going to be of much use to you, but I thought I'd post it in the event that you haven't already gotten this far with your search.

The John Deere Parts Website shows the Mid Mount PTO for 870 tractor as being John Deere Part# AM877586.

Sorry, I miss spoke, grounding the regulator won't help you. That will help if it doesn't turn over at all. If all your ground points are clean and tight and you have a ground wire directly on the motor, you may need to take the starter to a local shop and get it checked.

The item you refer to is a fuel shut off solenoid. It activates with the ignition switch to supply fuel to the main jets and low idle circuit. If you don't have the plunger any longer the fuel won't shut off when you turn off the ignition. It was probably there to stop run on after the ignition is shut off. New ones are around 150.00.

It sounds like you don't have enough power to close the drive clutch under power. Are you sure your back plug is good?

There is a small ring on the shaft that holds it in place somewhat, but to remove it you pull the axle out and overcome the holding power of the ring. Same goes for reinstalling, just push it back on.

It's pretty rare when you need a new carb. I think your main jet is partially restricted or your fuel supply is restricted. Sometimes the main jet can get build up on it and it looks good, but it is partially restricted. What size is your main jet? FE290D's should have a #90 at least.

Hello all,

To the board getting back to the original discussion, did anyone with the issue ever get resolution??? Here is my resolve. The unit went back to John Deere service 2 times and on the 2 try the eliminated the vibration and most of the clunking sounds. The unit still rattles and the drive train has a slight clunk only in certain conditions. Not under load. The unit still lunges at first acceleration but is better than first recieved. If I had to do it all over again I WOULD NOT, I repeat, WOULD NOT, purchase this unit again nor would I recommend it to anyone. The dealer offered to trade it in on something else or another unit but as used unit with 17 hrs on it... Thanks but why should I loose money.... Just to satisfy my curiousity I went and drove a POLARIS Ranger XP because it got similar reviews. The POLARIS drive train clunked and rattled more than the JD Gator so I stuck with the GATOR. I have spent hours working the rattles out. First big rattle was the bed cover. I removed the bed cover and reinstalled it using rubber padded strips on the bed edge and bed surface before reinstalling. It worked perfect. The other was the front hood. Simmilar application of stripping took care of it. The others underneath I just can't find... I can live with them at this point.... For what the unit cost you would have thought it would have been better engineered... Not JD quality that is expected.... Please post if anyone has found out about other issues.

Current prices for an assembled 25hp 4wd Jinma start about $6500 and go up from there. A 20hp 2wd will start about two grand less. More dealer spec'd options and/or better warranty = higher price. You know how it goes. <br>

Resale price is a whole different ballgame though. Those who treat it like a piece of trash, get a trash price. Those who make it into a better tractor than when it was bought, can command a premium price. Of my two JM254s, I got back what I paid for the 1st one - and MADE money on the 2nd one.<br>
