I have finally found a JD 72' belly mower (in good condition)I can afford and now need a mid pto kit, but am having no luck finding one. Does any one have a new or used kit for sale or a lead where to get one? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks

My Rubicon has BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires but they are stamped for M&S use, being a soft compound. They have huge lugs, no siping and seem a bit squirrelly in heavy rain but are a bear in the snow. As far as ice is concerned, the only thing I am aware of that can save you would be those studs along with soft rubber compound. For what it is worth, I checked the Consumer Reports testing of siped tires and they claim little difference with unsiped.

I have not done this with a diesel but generally if you use a higher gear it will work for gasoline engines. Trying it with low gear is like locking the brakes :)

Sorry, I miss spoke, grounding the regulator won't help you. That will help if it doesn't turn over at all. If all your ground points are clean and tight and you have a ground wire directly on the motor, you may need to take the starter to a local shop and get it checked.

The item you refer to is a fuel shut off solenoid. It activates with the ignition switch to supply fuel to the main jets and low idle circuit. If you don't have the plunger any longer the fuel won't shut off when you turn off the ignition. It was probably there to stop run on after the ignition is shut off. New ones are around 150.00.

It sounds like you don't have enough power to close the drive clutch under power. Are you sure your back plug is good?

There is a small ring on the shaft that holds it in place somewhat, but to remove it you pull the axle out and overcome the holding power of the ring. Same goes for reinstalling, just push it back on.

It's pretty rare when you need a new carb. I think your main jet is partially restricted or your fuel supply is restricted. Sometimes the main jet can get build up on it and it looks good, but it is partially restricted. What size is your main jet? FE290D's should have a #90 at least.

Hello all,

To the board getting back to the original discussion, did anyone with the issue ever get resolution??? Here is my resolve. The unit went back to John Deere service 2 times and on the 2 try the eliminated the vibration and most of the clunking sounds. The unit still rattles and the drive train has a slight clunk only in certain conditions. Not under load. The unit still lunges at first acceleration but is better than first recieved. If I had to do it all over again I WOULD NOT, I repeat, WOULD NOT, purchase this unit again nor would I recommend it to anyone. The dealer offered to trade it in on something else or another unit but as used unit with 17 hrs on it... Thanks but why should I loose money.... Just to satisfy my curiousity I went and drove a POLARIS Ranger XP because it got similar reviews. The POLARIS drive train clunked and rattled more than the JD Gator so I stuck with the GATOR. I have spent hours working the rattles out. First big rattle was the bed cover. I removed the bed cover and reinstalled it using rubber padded strips on the bed edge and bed surface before reinstalling. It worked perfect. The other was the front hood. Simmilar application of stripping took care of it. The others underneath I just can't find... I can live with them at this point.... For what the unit cost you would have thought it would have been better engineered... Not JD quality that is expected.... Please post if anyone has found out about other issues.

My condolences also.

I hesitate to even say so, and please understand the following is offered purely in the interest of safety.

I would point out however, the 'text book' definition of 'careless' would include operating a machine like a tractor without knowing how to do so properly.

A tractor is a very safe, stable machine when operated properly, and a VERY dangerous one when not.

I can only guess that a rollover that happened while "just picking up r yard" would be in the 'improper' category.

Again, my condolences.

Current prices for an assembled 25hp 4wd Jinma start about $6500 and go up from there. A 20hp 2wd will start about two grand less. More dealer spec'd options and/or better warranty = higher price. You know how it goes. <br>

Resale price is a whole different ballgame though. Those who treat it like a piece of trash, get a trash price. Those who make it into a better tractor than when it was bought, can command a premium price. Of my two JM254s, I got back what I paid for the 1st one - and MADE money on the 2nd one.<br>

RD, there's no secret.

The tires are only filled to the 75% level, all you have to do is make sure the valve is at the very top (12 o'clock position) of the tire.

For safety's sake you may want to give the tire a short blast of air in the valve first just to clear any Rim Guard away before it gets into your gauge.

Generally speaking however, a gauge is of little use on a tractor tire. It will only tell you what the pressure is at, what you want is the correct pressure, and that's not a number, it's a position.

You want the entire tread to JUST sit flat on the ground. Too much air and the shoulders will lift up, and too much air will cause the center to lift up.

In my experience, the best way to do this is to sit the tractor on a flat level surface and add air till the shoulder just starts to come up, then let some air back out till it just touches again.

Gravity, about as dependable a tool as you will ever find!! LOL

You'll like the added traction. Here are some installation tips for the rears.

It helps to have a second pair of hands, and the first time you might want the help of someone experienced.

Do the inside connector first, as tight as you can, and cut off or tie down the extra links so they won't hit. Then the outside connector. After each use, yank around any side-to-side slippage. As they break in you will likely tighten the outside connectors by a link.

I ensure both rears are in the same position, with the connectors on both sides in the one location where I can check them (the hitch area), so after I can check one I don't have to move the tractor to find and check the other.
