I cracked the right rear axle case on my Kubota B7800 HSD. Lost all the fluid.<br>

(Before you ask how? the only thing I can think of is I did hit a hole, rut or something while full speed on one section of the property, enough to bounce me up out of the chair) <br>

Since the axle runs through this piece I am not sure what all is involved in replacing this? So far I haven't been able to find a shop manual. Still looking... Any advise, or word of encouragement or warnings would be greatly appreciated. <br>

Thank you all for your replies. I do have a tech manual and this shutoff solenoid sounds like a good lead to follow. It did seem as though it was an electrical problem as opposed to fuel filter. Joel, the problem occurred whether in the seat or while out of the seat. So I don't think its a safety switch problem - but I will definitely keep that in mind.

Thanks for the additional information. I wouldn't even bother looking for the pressure relief valve. With a tractor this new, the dealer should come out to your house and perform the checks for you.

Of course, it's always nice to look over their shoulders, because the warranty period doesn't last forever. At some point in the future, you'll probably be working on your tractor all by your lonesome.

Being that this is a new tractor, I wouldn't rule out a faulty hydraulic pump, a faulty adjustment on the pressure relief valve -- or even the possibility that a young mechanic working at the dealer may have put the wrong fluid in your hydraulic system. (Tractors are shipped dry. Every fluid is added at the dealer.)

Hope you get to the bottom of this problem. When you get it figured out, please stop by to let us know the outcome, so that we might be able to share this information with any future members.

Thanks again. As with Keller Bros, they are somewhat local, but still over an hour round trip, I hadn't thought to check for an online presence of the local dealers. I ended up buying the parts from Messick's over the phone. They are very helpful and informative, and are shipping more order for a very reasonable amount.

First off, welcome!!!

The model designation 'GST' is an acronym for Glide Shift Transmission, so yes, if it says GST in the model it has that transmission.

The hesitation you are feeling is actually the transmission changing gears, much like the way an automatic transmission in a car or truck shifts, but the tractor shifts much slower.

A GST transmission is basically just a standard gear tranny, except the hydraulics actuate the clutch, shift the gears, then let the clutch back out for you automatically.

Frank, lots of good advice here already, but for my $0.02 worth.

Not only are you going to take a bath on the trade-in of your existing truck, but if & when you come to get rid of the (about to be) new truck you'll take it on the chin (wallet?) again.

I was in the same predicament this past year myself, my dually has been a great truck, and almost trouble-free, but it's now 9 years old (a 1999) and 300k km (180k miles) on the clock. Added to that a new gal who doesn't mind riding in the truck, but isn't real keen on wheeling it around herself, although there is ample room for groceries in it. LOL

I have always had a second vehicle as a daily driver for myself, so I just added another one to the 'fleet' for her to drive. With the big truck parked most of the time it will last a long time still now.

In your case adding a mid-sized sedan or a mini-van (they're nearly giving them away now) might be a bunch cheaper in the long run. If you count the reduced gas costs, plus not taking the hit on the trade-in, you might end up with a nearly free vehicle.

If the clutch is this stuck, will he be able to break the tractor apart, and then pry it loose and the clutch still be useable? To me, it seems with the cost of breaking the tractor apart (either his own time or hired) and then with the question of will I still have to replace the clutch, worth the risk of trying a non petroleum rust spray. Or is there no such product that would loosen the rust and not damage the clutch to where it would always slip? Some of the products to loosen rust sure don't seem to leave any residue. kt

Have you tested to see if the switch itself was letting the current through when switched on? Did you check fuses? Look for loose connections? Is it possibly you had a chemical sprayed on connections corroding them?

Not sure if the switches you are adding is any less secure then JD key is. kt

Our Gator has a real problem with fuel gelling and clogging the carb if you don't use gas stablizer before storing for such a period of time. I see that your plugs are wet but you also say they are firing. My guess is you are either not getting enough gas to start or so much the engine is flooding. Have you check the gas in the tank to be sure you don't have water builted up during storage to the point it will not start? kt

Greg, I agree about reading the labels. With Mobile One having products that look so much alike and sound so much alike are you sure that Wal Mart oil change people do? I am not. I realize all Wal Mart employees are not the same. First is the car care part owned by Wal Mart or contracted out? If contracted out, who stands behind the work? I really don't know. But I do know I took my vechile there one time and they took my order, drained my oil and had I not been watching, the synthetic oil specified would have not gone in it. They were out.

Had to replace the battery in one of my children's car recently. Her husbands uses Wal Mart, obvious they don't check fluids.

I very much realize all Wal Marts are not the same. Their prices are not the same either. (The manager has a certain amount of flexibility in the price level they use. Depending on the "competion" in that area the prices can be higher or lower than the next Wal Mart.) kt

Just for the sake of comparisons.........

Here's a 1985 model Kubota L4630 HST with only 145 hours on it. This machine is 23 years old, but has seen very LITTLE use.

This isn't always a good thing either, as the engine and hydraulic oils probably haven't been changed but one time in all those years. I'd steer clear of this one, as well.

You may not have to drain the tank this time around. Being that the weather is much warmer this time of year, you may be able to get rid of any accumulated moisture by simply adding a dose of fuel additive to the tank.

Look for a product designed to help prevent diesel fuel lines from freezing and gelling up.

You really should get that drain fixed up so that you can use it periodically, but for now you can probably get by with a little fuel additive.

This coming Fall, be sure to keep your fuel tank full at all times. Fill it when you're done using it each time, rather than fill it before you go to use it the next time. Keeping the tank full (or nearly full) will prevent any moisture from accumulating in your diesel fuel.

Just changed my transmission oil for my JD 4115 hydro. 229 hours. Used 14.6 liters (3.9 gal) of hy gd lo vis for a cost of $71.00 for 5 gal bucket. Prefer to use recommended fluids and not substitutes.

A couple of things come to mind. First, there is a fusible link on this tractor. It is located near the starter. On the same post that the battery wire is attached to the starter, there is another wire that is about 5-6 inches long with two connectors attaching it to the harness. The key switch gets current from this link by way of the F1 fuse. There should always be 12 volts at the F1 FUSE. If not, then the fusible link is probably bad. Second, in your first post, you mentioned replacing the battery terminal clamps. Be sure to check the connection between the clamp and the cable. I have seen these clamp on ends have a poor connection due to corrosion cause a lot of problems. They should be considered a temporary fix only until you can get a new complete cable.

Just traded my BX1500 to a BX2350. Kubota now has a BX26?? with 26 HP. It's smaller than B but near the HP if you have those extra implements that the 23HP may not handle. Have had B7800 and now 3 BX's. For mowing and light dirt/snow/rock moving I will recommend a BX. BX's are mainly just lower to ground, lighter weight and some a few less HP. With the new 26HP model the HP part is almost up there with the B's and exceeds some of them.

EW; Yup you're missin somethin, I don't have a tree big enough to mount the FEL on, somebody borrowed my comalong, so I just left the loader on the tractor and lifted it that way. Seriously that seemed lots safer than having a tiller swinging from a chain with the bucket pretty high, just lift eer up and back it under. Take it from the somewhat educated one from Iowa.

Have some updated experience now on L3240HST Plus. After 12 hours moving dirt and mowing I'm not thrilled with the L. Changed RPM's to 2600 as manual suggests which seems to be really reving it up. It's better for moving dirt. More comfortable seat and suspension but for mowing up a steep hill I'm not happy. It slows down to much and the 6' Landpride RFM slows down to much, will not maintain it's speed and PTO RPM's. Dealer told me to let off pedal instead of flooring it and I tried that but still no improvement. With partial pedal you can feel it down shifting itself to low low but I do it manually because it seems to slow to much before it does it automatically. OK on flat land but no better than the B. Have it in low low going up steep hills and mow with it all ways in low (L) high (RABBIT) on flats. Ran the B7800 in M at all times mowing and rarely ran it over 1700RPM which did not seem reved to high. Guess the weight difference of the L vs B really takes it's toll with very little difference in HP. My next trade will probably be the L for a B3030 or B7800 with FEL. Also traded my BX1500 for a BX2350 60" MMM last week so that will be my main home mower and the F2880E that I ordered on the 20th for mowing a flat mobile home park still hasn't arrived.

Assuming there's at least one bolt thread visible to you, you can see by carefully looking at it which way would turn tighter, which way looser.<br>

You won't need a torque wrench to remove, and without a manual it won't help you to install. What you will need is a means of locking the blade while you turn the nut.
