I agree with Joel. Remove the bucket and place it on a flat, level concrete floor. Compare height/width measurements end to end and side to side. Also diagonally to see if it's out of square or wracked/torqued. It is possible to bend a loader arm (by ramming something under full power under the right conditions). However, if it is bent simply putting a long straight edge on them both and comparing withh resolve that question. It's also possible the "friend" strained one side or pulled one side higher and that caused one cylinder to pull out farther. If that is the case, lower the loader. With it shut off, slowly bleed the lower part of the cylinders and see if it settles down. If it does, good. Tighten the lines and see how it works.

I've never owned a tractor with a cab. There are times when I wish I had one..... especially when mowing in the early summer......during mosquito season.

I grew up on a Minneapolis Moline U. My uncle had the tractor with the cab. I was always the person who got stuck cleaning the windows, vacuuming out the thing, and wiping up the messes my uncle made when he missed the spittoon.

Come to think of it......I'll probably never have a cab. I rather enjoy spitting over the rear wheels. Copenhagen is better than any air conditioner. hehehe.

Besides that, it's danged hard to shoot skunks from the tractor, when surrounded by a cab. My Colt .45 is the next best thing to Copenhagen.

The 670 was the same size as my 650's but with an extra cylinder. I hope you're right about the 790. I'll know by this weekend. I'll post the answer as soon as I try it.

Good stories Joel. It's always interesting to hear how other folks deal with the situations in different parts of the world. My pics show what the trees look like 30 feet from our house. We have to keep cutting them back to maintain a safe fire distance. Volunteers pop up all the time and the ones growing in the gravel drive usually get sprayed with brush killer. There are another dozen growing around the house that I need to transplant this fall. In two years they've grown to around 30" tall. The fast growth is amazing. We're at 1100 feet and that's too low for Noble firs to grow big so we've got a bunch of those that are dying off. We're replacing them with Western Red Cedars as we work through each section. We're thinking of building a little log cabin out on the east side as a fun diversion.

Is the floating three point system necessary?

Absolutely not. With a little bit of foresight, any tractor operator could raise or lower his three point arms in anticipation of the tractor going into a dip, or over a slight rise. However, for the person who mows several acres each day.... every day.....the floating three point system is a handy feature.

There's a guy who sells gadgets on television.......I forget his name. One of his favorite sales pitches goes like this......"Just set it, and forget it". Well, that television salesman could just as well be selling Tebben mowers with the floating three point system. Once you set your three point arms to the proper height, there's never any need to adjust them again while mowing, and the mower will never skip, nor leave any uneven grass behind.

The floating three point system isn't meant to be used for mowing ditches or embankments. It is designed for use on finishing mowers, where a professional appearance is desired. The Tebben mower will not handle any rough terrain, as the leveling wheels are spaced too far apart -- front to rear -- to make it useful on knobs, or deep dips. It is meant to be used on relatively flat ground with rolling hills, and shallow, wide gulleys........as may be found on most any golf course.

In reality, the Tebben mower, utilizing the floating three point system, makes the Three-Point mower act more like a belly mower, rather than a brush hog. It's a nice feature, but not at all necessary. It will save a lot of elbow grease, and it's very convenient for those who earn a living with their mowers.

When auctions like this come up in your area, there is simply no better price to be found! On the other hand, to have either of these items shipped across country would likely end up costing the buyer a small fortune.

Shopping the local auctions is always the best deal, provided you don't jump at the first item that comes up. Some of the equipment has clearly seen its better days. (The pictures generally tell the story) I'm always selective in what I buy, and I never purchase anything that's located too far away, nor anything that has clearly been mistreated or abused. Even so, a fresh coat of paint can be deceiving. It is always best, if possible, to visit the auction site and look at the equipment, before placing a bid, as you will never get a refund on anything you decide to purchase.

Accepting his offer with the intent to turn him into authorities could cause you some trouble too. There are stories of people doing that and the scammers get some guys to pay them a visit. They are thugs and even empty threats will cause sleepless nights. If you do want to play with him you should be completely untraceable, which is sort of hard to do if you have legitimate business and need people to contact you to make a sale.

Well, first of all let me start by saying that comparing a Toolcat to a Gator (or similar) is sort of like trying to compare a Mack dump truck and a 1/2 ton pickup truck.

You pay for that difference too.

I am very pleased with the Toolcat, we now are running our 3rd one, I sold the first one to a buddy of mine who runs a nursery and nursery farm, it is still in daily operation.

I would point out though, that a Toolcat is a bit of a compromise at EVERYTHING it does, but the saving grace is, everything IS what it does. It is a personell and material carrier, it is a light loader, it is a tool carrier, it is turf-friendy, super simple to use on top of rugged and dependable. If I sound like an infommercial it's only because I think it's a good product, and for CERTAIN applications, it's darned handy, probably unbeatable.

The only big drawback is the price. It is about the same price as a comparable sized CUT, strictly from memory, I think the last one was about $35,000.

It sold new for $10,500 according to the link above. And it is a bigger lawn tractor. I'd put that money toward a big downpayment on a new, bigger, better, nicer one with 4-wd. Or spend less than half the money and buy a Fordson 2N, 9N or 8N.

If you don't prime it, it will instantly be wiped out before it has a chance to suck oil from the reservoir. Been there done that.

i tried screwing the knob under the seat all the way in and all the way out nothing happens. there seema to be ho tension on that screw. maybee a broken spring if it has one.
