The hole my son is digging with the backhoe is getting very big. Now I have to find a place to get rid of the stumps he is digging up. I am enjoying watching his progess. He is a much neater tractor operator than I am. He is stacking the dirt in a huge neat pile and he is leveling up around the hole so that he can get the backhoe back in safely. I have to show him how to grease everything up tomorrow. I have never seen my tractor so full of dust.

This might be a bit long, so thanks for reading... I have an Agco ST35, 130(ish) hours. I was using it the other day and it started to feel like the engine was dragging. It got to the point where the only gear it would actually go forward in was the super slow snail/turtle gear. Anything faster and it "felt" like it wanted to go, but didn't move. Any ideas? My husband came home and looked at it. Pulled up on the clutch (no, I do not "ride" the clutch, but my dad had borrowed it for about 3 weeks and I have no idea if he was or not. I doubt he was) and it seemed to "fix" the situation, EXCEPT it still feels like it's losing horsepower. eg: York raking the riding arena heading around a turn, slows W-A-Y down. I have it scheduled to go to the dealer this week, but it's a minimum $205 between trucking it and diagnosis!! The manual says something about a free-play adjustment? We tried, but couldn't fit any tools in it to really work it. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!<br>

I havent read everyones reply but I have a mowing business in Maine and I mow around 150 lawns a week, and I have tried every zero turn around. The only one I can swear by is the walker. I dont know if they have them around where you are from but they are the best and easiest to use, the least maintenence and do the best job. The walker is the only zero radious I will ever own again. There more pricey then the other models, but well worth the money. you will get a lot longer life out of them. and a lot more agile. any way thats my two cents, hope it helped

I own both ford and dodge diesel's. I love the ford.. the dodge is a good pulling truck, but handles like a 1946 sail boat. my dodge is an 02, my fords are both 07 I bought an extended cab 350 diesel and a regular cab 350 diesel. I programmed em with a bully dog programmer.. 550 horse. pulls my tc like a champ. just cant see behind you because all the black smoke

In the Per-Boomer days (OLD 20 series) NH sourced the rims from Japan along with the tractor and rims are metric. When they launched their Boomer series they changed the hubs to meet the SAE standard. The TC30 was also updated to use SAE rims. All Boomer models including TC30 use a Standard US supplied rim.(TZ not included) The TC30,TC33,TC34 all use the same size and bolt pattern. The dealer was mistaken because they will interchange. The front is a 6x6 and the rear 8x8.

The SAE Standard rims will not fit the older Pre-Boomer models and I know of no one who is offering any kind of adapter kit. To change out the hubs would be very expensive.

I agree with Earthwrks that a call to Unverferth would be a good idea but, you have to be dealer to buy from them.

From what I have found so far, all Kubota equipment uses the same (non-standard of course) bolt pattern and size for mounting points.

That being the case you 'should' be able to get on of the spiffy reclining (seat back is adjustable) seats with fold-down arm rests from one of the high end turf machines like the ZD or F series.

It will be spendy no doubt, but I can tell you, they sure are comfy chairs.

I had a similar problem with one of our small turf units, except we just took the old line to our local hydraulic shop who made a replacement.

It cost $9 for the line and $4 times 2 for the fitting.

Kubota wanted slightly more than $17 for the part, and couldn't have gotten it to us in the one hour that the hydraulics people did. ;)

Definitely a shift fork.
They are like $15
Not a hard job, need a rear pto gasket also.
You probably need to set the clutch too.
If the shift grinds much at all going in, it needs adjusted.

Like Joel indicated it is difficult to guess a selling price for a tractor without the model number. But with that said and knowing the tractor is 30 hp with the attachments you mentioned and if it is 4 wheel drive and has a FEL I think it might be a fair price.

Would be interested in what you find out!

Well I sent a note to the site corporate attorney today to get their perspective. I'm sure they don't want their international employees to have their cars impounded because the local police don't know the laws. First impressions are often accurate. If you see things that cause you some concern, such as make-shift welds, shoddy repair practices, homemade remedies of any sort........stay away from the tractor.

Many people repair their tractors (and everything else they own) using any old junk lying around that can be made suitable for such a repair. These repairs are generally made for the purpose of saving a few pennies, which means that they likely saved a few pennies in other, more critical measures, as well.

If changing the oil costs money, some people won't do it. Or, they will change the oil, but not bother changing the filter. This is one of the most common problems you'll find on any used equipment.

Look for splices and hose clamps that shouldn't be there. Look for tape, stovepipe wire, and other haphazzard repairs of this sort. This will give you a clear indication of the type of care the tractor has received in the past.

If you see bolts and screws and where a latch should be, it's a fair indication that the previous owner didn't take the time to do a proper repair on anything else involving the care of the tractor.

You can also examine the condition of the loader's bucket, as a way of judging how the tractor was used, or abused, just by seeing the dents, dings, and bends in the metal. Is the hitch badly worn, with oblong holes, or do the three-point arms have any sign of damage or abuse? If so, you can bet that this tractor was used for some very heavy jobs, probably better suited for a tractor twice its size.

If your tractor comes with a mower, check to see if the blades have ever been sharpened, or replaced. Neglect in this area is a good sign that neglect is prevalent thorughout.

And after deciding that the tractor looks well-cared for, it would then be a good idea to dig a little deeper, by following the suggestions provided by the fine members who have commented previously.

Thanks for the info.

I have never seen one of these things before, or since. I didn't know that there was such a thing. There is no doubt that my uncle actually made this cutting tool in his own shop, but I didn't know that these things were commonly used in the past.

When my uncle passed away, we found wood spokes in the attic of his shop. We also found complete wagon wheels, steel bands for wagon wheels, and many other neat things of this sort. The stump cutter was certainly handmade, but he did a great job making it. It looked well-used.

Thanks for the history lesson. It's good to learn something new every day.

In the grander scheme of things, you would never really notice the difference between a 54" and 60" deck on the SAME machine.

It is an 11% increase in width, which sounds substantial, but the reality of it is if you gain 6" per pass, and you are cutting say an area 100' in width, a 54" deck would take at least 19 passes to cut it, a 60" deck would take at least 17 passes, this of course is in a perfect world where the 60" deck cuts exactly 60" of uncut grass with no overlap or missed spots.

So the bottom line is, on area of 100' in width, it MIGHT save you one pass up & back.

However, as BVance pointed out, if it causes you grief, and grief equals lost time somewhere else, you really only spent some extra money on a bigger deck, you didn't really gain anything at all.
