Murf, well that is a new one on me. I might be from the oldest township in upper Canada, but I bet no one knows where it is. Except maybe you.
If he lives in Ohio I can not imagine needing to travel that far. I can get it here with in a few miles and need to travel 25 to go shopping.

I'm more in the 50-55 hrs. per year use on the CUT and about 125 to 175 hrs. per year on the various lawn/garden tractors.

Randy... I really like the concept of having a barrel of oil and putting it in everything. What gives me pause is the two Toyota engines.

They are designed to run on 5w-30 energy saving oils and when I have used something heavier I can feel the difference in acceleration and see the difference in fuel mileage.

So I guess I will give the tractor what it needs, put the Mobil 1 in the Toyota's and get a third oil for the Samurai... it likes a 40 weight and it loses to much of the stuff to run synthetics....... and something else for the lawn mower engines..... oh, and then there is the Honda Rincon......I think my head hurts.........

Thank you for the quick reply. Peter the oil that is dripping is not engine oil. The oil is clear to slightly red and my engine oil is brown to blackish.

So if it is the input shaft seal, then I probably will have to split the tractor to get to that seal? If so I should consider replacing the clutch at the same time since I have the tractor split in half.

ncrunch, there are several designs out there, including a hybrid I've made some years back, that basically convert an old airtight wood stove into a waste oil heater.

It can be achieved with no welding required, but will work better with a few small pieces welded together, but nothing bigger than say a basketball, or more than about 20 pounds. Certainly the sort of thing you could easily carry in the trunck of any car (with spousal consent of course ;->).

Buy a Good Name Brand BH, use it for what you need it for and when done you should be able to sell it and I have no doubt that the money lost would not even be close to what you gained in work. As far as an inferior brand, I doubt you would have a good resale on it, maybe not. I feel you may save a few dollars up front but you will lose those dollars in repairs, or resale.

My original battery on my 4310 failed a couple of days ago. I purchased the tractor March, 2002. I went to the JD Dealer and they sold me an Interstate heavy duty workaholic battery, SP-22NF, 390CCA, 490CA. $80.

SG8, we have no firm plans but are thinking something roughly in the 35-40 foot diameter area. The best place for a pond here is where the septic system is :( We're on top of a hill so our placement options are limited. But my wife wants one and it would be a nice addition. I'd like to draw in more wildlife and that seems like a good way to do it.

Dodge Sprinters have a Mercedes 2.7L 5 cylinder Diesel engine and we have sold a billion of them. Many have bought the 158" 2500 and loaded are getting over 22 mpg. empty close to 30. They have a 5000 lb towing cap with coolers etc. If you get one with Traction Control and Anti-slip and put some good tires on, there won't be many places you can't go. If you live in a real Cold area, be sure to get the dual batteries.
For a rugged, 4X4 truck that won't kill you and give you towing cap that you need and ruggedness you demand, look at the Dodge Dakota, it isn't a truck for just Dump Runs. It will work and work HARD unlike the imports and smaller trucks. It isn't as BIG as the 1/2 tons but bigger than the S-10s and Rangers. Mileage" well if you work it you will get working mpg. usually about 13 to 15. Empty, 19 mpg. Keep the RPMs down and the MPH up for the BEST results.
I would also suggest running NGK V-Notch Spark plugs, they Generate MORE spark and will increase HP. I use them in My Snowmobiles and they don't foul as easily and my truck doesn't need to be downshifted two gears coming up the mtn and there is more power. I have also used Slick 50 every 50,000 miles and Mobil Sythnetic oil or a Good Pennsylvania Grade oil. I have over 320,000 miles on it now and it is still working. Of course it is a 318.
You buy a Touring Suspension vehicle that gives you a lovely ride and you will kill it when you need to get work out of it.

Due to Hurricane Katrina I am going to be forced to purchase a larger tractor with FEL (sometimes good in all things, just have to look) I have seen on www sites several dealers supplying Bulldog FEL. Can anyone comment on quality, price,service etc. on this equipment. I live about a hrs. drive from Accu-Tech in Wiggins MS. Therefore, I could easily do business with them, but, it would be convient if the Bulldog was already installed and was a good product. Thanks. Dan

Thanks, guys. I THOUGHT I had my TC-33 "fixed" a couple of months ago ... I THOUGHT it was just a "high resistance" connection on one of the two switches within the "transmission case". You lay under it and on the left side -- basically below the levers -- are the connectors from the "neutral" switch and the PTO switch. They are "push-in" or "bullet plugs". I thought one was maybe loose, because it started fine for a couple of months (altho it was only used 3-4 times) BUT then it failed again -- CLUNK, but no crank. Without touching anything, I un-taped my "bypass switch" and it started perfect!!

Since then I've decided it MIGHT be in the "neutral start" switch ... like sometimes it makes enough, and other times it's high resistance (and hence the low volts to the solenoid). I THINK I've got it to crank after woggling the lever back and forth. In any case it sure ain't the starter -- It goes EVERY time with my "bypass switch"

I am wondering what a late 80's B1550 w/hydro, 4wd, Bi speed turn, 60" belly mower, rear bagger attachment with about 1000 hours might be worth? I am the second owner and it has always been shedded and is in very good condition.

My sources are telling me that the drive shaft fix is not holding up..... and Kubota is not sure what to do yet to make it right.

I agree that considering the complexity of the machine Kubota has done it better than most other manufacturers could do.

Part of the problem on my part was overconfidence in Kubota's engineering coupled with the assumption that since I was buying a 4wd, I was getting an off-road capable machine.

The RTV is exactly what it is advertised to be... a scooter for a hard surfaced workplace and maybe expandable to a construction site. It is not designed or equipped to go into a true off road setting.

Jimbo... did you use Kubota fluids in the HST or another brand? I would be interested in knowing.
