The comment about the T-case and low gears just reminded me of an interesting truck on one of the jobs we did years ago.

The guy wanted a truck geared down to nothing, but couldn't find the gears he needed so did what he thought was the next best thing.

He converted it to Hydrostatic drive. He put a swash plate style pump on the back of the motor in place of the TX and a pair of skidsteer drive motors (working in unison) out of a wrecked unit on the input shaft to the T-case.

The result was 100% engine power at an infinite range of speeds.

It certainly was creative if nothing else.

While a flail is undoubtedly more money to buy, I don't know about the power requirement being any higher.

According to Woods, the power required for a 5' medium duty bush hog is 30+hp.

Rhino-Servis say the power requirement for their 5' medium duty flail mower is 25+hp.

So according to the manufacturers the flail actually takes LESS power not more.

I need something fast and inexpensive that will bush hog most of the time but I'd like the flexibility to drill some holes and get a bucket if possible if things work out. Well, after looking for over a year and finally purchasing a TC40DA, it arrived on Saturday. I bought it from a local dealer. The salesman came out to our house to deliver it and spent over 2 hours showing me how to operate it, all the features, and how to generally service it. I was very impressed. I have been using it all weekend to move 60 yards of fill sand I had delivered, and it works with ease. I am very satisfied, and glad I went with the 40 hp model vs. 29/33/or 35 which I also considered. I also got the front grill guard and bolt on cutting edge to make this tractor last forever, I'll never need to buy another one!

I think 60 would be about right. About the same amount of whatever you're raking will dribble off the ends of the rake no matter the width of the unit, so being a bit wider means you keep more of what your raking. I was amazed at how well a rake will movw loose soil or crushed rock around, it almost replaces a rear blade in loose conditions. Best of luck. Frank.

Well, since the hoe is old and has unknown fluids, water, or other uncompatable stuff in it, I didn't want to risk messing up my new tractor. I suppose if I could flush out everything on the hoe 1st, install a filter, that would be a possibility. The tractor dealer said that I could overheat the tractor fluid with extensive hoe use. I don't buy that since the b7800 is rated 6+ for gpm. I have been told there is a kit you can put on the rear of the B7800 to hook up to the hydraulics. I have read that you would get better performance from the hoe on a pto pump too, unsure if that is true.

The 3 cylinder engine on my Kubota L2802 DT 4wd tractor sounds like the tappets need adjustment. Much rattling at idle. Are these adjustable,? If so what is the gap for hot (or cold Setting ) ?

Fiddled with all the quick disconnects. Pushed every lever back and forth on tractor making sure something wasn't stuck halfway on/off.... and it now magically WORKS! Needless to say I am very happy!!!

I am disappointed in my dealer. I called them almost a week ago to schedule a service call to fix this & they never even tried to call back. I'm so glad the problem is gone.

That is the pilot bushing for the input shat for the trans. You can press them out and get a new one. It is normal ware.

Thirteen seasons on my 5' BH Squealer. Kept outside until the barn was completed four years ago, very little negative effect on it. I bought the clutch to protect the gear box, extra hundred or so at the time. Seems I paid around eight or nine hundred at the time.

Some questions:
-Is the rim factory equipment?
-Is the rim turned around making it stick out farther?
-From looking at the Kioti web sites it looks to me that the area of the rim where you say it broke is somewhat flat--correct?
-Do you do a lot of loader work that requires you to drive over large obstacles when fully loaded?
-Do you make a lot of turns when fully loaded--especially when not moving? (shouldn't matter, but I'm curious)
-Have you looked at the bearings of the failed wheel for play or damage?
-Does the tire itself show abnormal wear?
-Have one or several wheel lugs/nuts come loose before the failure?
-And the biggie: has a neighbor or brother-in-law ever borrowed it?

I believe the tach and hour meter are run buy a cable. Before buying any parts check for current at the shut off solenoid when you turn the key off to determine which part is faulty. The tail light sounds like the switch is faulty allowing current to pass when off.

I think you'll find both to be very reliable and high quality tractors. But, you're asking a loaded question, kinda like Fords verses Chevys. Just cause your cousin says "Kubotas eat New Hollands" (or whatever) don't make it so.

You need to go to both dealers and TRY OUT both machines and see which machine fits you better, which dealership gives you a better "feel" for their services, which dealership treats you better and make your decision off of that data. In the end, your dealer relationship and their support will mean a whole lot more to you than what color the hood is painted.

The user name was actually the vanity plate when my wife got her corvette a few years back. Obviously meant to imply that once the "kids were gone" she could aford the car and didn't need the extra seats! We miss our two not being home as well, but were recently blessed with the first grandchild (luckily a boy for Pappy's sake). He already has a New Holland Pedal Tractor and a New Holland wagon. Going to get him blue blood one way or another and 10 weeks is not too early to start!
