Just started using my chipper this year after collecting two years of dust. After 36 constant hours of flawless chipping, I had to reverse the blades once (PITA), and the knuckle on the feeder drive rounded off and buggered up as previously mentioned by so many people. Luckily, parts are readily available, and I'd rather just replace parts than be creative and adapt universal joints. Please note that the 36 house of chipping was in standing dead cedar. That's like cutting and chipping concrete...extremely hard wood. The chipper is an excellent value for the money, and the little maintenance is just part of ranch work. Now, about all those chain saw problems....

Thank you cutter and steve arnold. Sorry for the long delay in responding. The Morton building is wonderful! Quality is the best, they really have their act together. Next step; water and sewage rough in for bathroom, (shower, toilet, slop sink, wash basin), electric, floor drain rough in, then concrete. Haven't got any quotes for concrete here in Maryland yet. In your gravel moving pictures, you say the ROPS is folded down because you couldn't get into the shed with it up. Why was the ROPS down in the mud pictures? Was leaving it down the dumbest thing that you wouldn't tell about? I can't believe that so many people don't think "SAFETY". Our local newspaper lists all arrests and accidents. The amount of people mentioned that don't use seatbelts is unbelievable. HEY YOU ALL OUT THERE. WORK SAFELY!!

Apparently there isn't anyone with an opinion on this subject. For future reference, there is, indeed a small amount of side play in the interface between the driveshaft yoke and the splined input shaft to the mfwd of the JD955. I was able to locate a new shaft, and compared the play in it,as compared to the play in the one on my tractor. Personally, I feel there is enough play to warrant a high pressure lubricant such as never sieze, but the service manual doesn't call for anything.

Thanks for the input! To be on the safe side, I think I will use synthetic motor oil, a block & a battery heater, plus I understand that JD has a transmission heater for the 955 (no starter fluid). I will let you know how it went,in the spring of next year.

I've made more little rocks out of big rocks with my brushhog than I can count. The blades have never been sharpened, look like they could use sharpening, yet still do the job very well. I've been advised NOT to sharpen the blades. Right now, the brush, saplings, etc..., are busted up quite nicely. I was told that sharpening the blades would result in the brush being cut cleanly, with sharp ends sticking up that would puncture tires very easily.

I purchased a "tooth blade" directly from my New Holland dealer. Mounting only required drilling a hole in each side of the bucket, then slipping the unit over the lip of the bucket and bolting in place. It makes a world of difference when trying move earth. Attaches and removes easily (although a little heavy).

Do you really need skid shoes? I have a 5 foot rear blade on my Kubota and just use the blade itself on my asphalt driveway. I have yet to do any damage to the driveway other than a few very light scrape marks where the asphalt might have a slight high spot. After a few weeks you don't even notice the marks.

Had my Kubota 8 plus years now. Use the hydro hard sometimes but never abused it. What I mean is that I don't go forward and then slam the reverse pedal, I wait til it comes to an almost stop then back up. I've used my B1550 (17 hp) to dig, push snow, pull downed trees, etc. and NEVER had a problem. I maintain the equipment as best as I can using synthetic oils. I'll probably hear crap about this but I'll never go back to a gear tractor. I agree with Jason. Good luck!

Looking for a good economical tractor and have narrowed the field down to JD790 and Kubota L2500. I am leaning to the 790, however concerned about its lift capacity...only approx 800lbs (2 ft from lift pt). The 790 has more hp and a live pto vs the Kubota and may be a little cheaper. I would use it primarily to bushhog and push snow..maybe a loader also. Should I be concerned about this? Any advice pro or con.

Suggestion: I would not cable tie directly to the hoses. I've seen hoses cable tied that were damaged by the cable ties<br>due to vibration. What works really good is to take a piece of old hose, garden hose, split electrical spiral wrap, etc., <br>first placing the old hose over the hydraulic line and then attaching the cable tie.
