Hardwood, there is a company who makes side mount cutters for CUT or assume they still do. That is the issue that first brought me to TP. In those years my experience has been all over the board on this issue. If need be can post it but am still working on a mower that I think will work with my CUT that is totally self contained hyd system using rear pto pump to operate the cutter and control it. Found a small flail mower at good price (one company's bankruptcy is another's fortune)that I am able to run with my excavator's hyd and think will also work on my cutter design. For my nickel I like a flail mower more than a rotatry for such a cutter.

8nboomer...this site helped me very much with such thoughts as you are asking here. It provides a great sounding board.

jhr, not a lot of mid mount mowers of any type used here other than on smallest of tractors but did not realize there was a rough cut mid mount mower. How large of tree or brush will it cut and is there is problem with the rear wheels running over the stuble?

I have a B2710 and there is no neutral to the 4 wheel 2 wheel shift on mine. It is either in 2 or 4 wheel. On mine the shifter is on the right side and lower level right below lift lever if memory is correct.

I would follow Art's suggestion and check the fuel filter(s). All it takes is a little trash or water. Have had same results you describe due to water in the fuel and also a wasp in the fuel tank. If your fuel filter is clear look carefully for water. Why not just take it off and drain to see if any water in it or trash for that mater.

It sounds like you need to lube all shifter linkage, even lift.

KW, I find a lot of uses for used oil. A 5 gallon bucket is great to place tools such as shovel or hoe to protect them from rusting. Found the best way to keep a sprayer pump from going bad was to use quick connections and when through spraying drop in a 5 gallon bucket of used oil. That oil is also great to spray or brush on to such as disk blades or scrape blades. And of course it is really good to help fuel a fire such as burning brush, stumps or such. Oh it will also help prevent wood from rotten when used for floors in trailers or such.

oneace's warning about falling off the tractor can be real. Lost a friend who some how fell or was knocked off of his and ended up being squeezed to death by one of the wheels. It did not run over him but pressed his chest enough he could not breath. I also heard of a farmer who for some reason realized he was falling off the seat due to a health issue or insect sting or such while he was disking. He was alert enough and able to raise the lift so the disk cleared him he was pulling. He must have been skinner than me.

As to the mower being down and it was left up, could someone have push the lift down for safety or it could leak down. Admit it was a 62 model by my in laws Ford tractor never would have held any weight up long with tractor off.

The cruise control on my tractor is not electrical and frankly have learned I had rather hold the pedal down with my foot if running full pedal than using the cruise. I like the cruise more for spraying where you have to keep a ground speed and pressure combo.

Greg very much know you are very knowledge but still wanted to point out a flail mower is really rotating at a very high rpm when run at recommend pto rpm. Sure would want to be sure the bolts and cutters on it were secure before any real run.

The point EW made sure came home for me. I solved the need on tractor with lift but ended up deciding would stick with rfm. It was mainly due to the type of blades available for the mower I was considering. Have used flail mower on boom a good bit for ditches and tree limbs and like it. If all proves well great price.

Wally, rereading your post this AM wondered, what does the manual show for the "draft bolt" position? If it does not show it to be at the tops as you were told ask the dealership if they can provide a service bullentin or something in writing to show that. Not to be arguementive but if it has that much negative impact would think they have it shown somewhere.

Having worked in large equipment company for a few years jb may be right. But would be hard for it to have traveled from there to where you found it unless done on purpose. At least seems it would have been painted. However his thoughts make sense and so still does a clamp.

I have almost driven to my brother's to read the serial number on his but have passedon that. Doesn't Massey use a tag with the model and serial number stamped on it? If so it would seem simple to be sure you have the serial number. If that is where you are finding this number are you able to take a picture of it? If not get another set of eyes to read the tag.

I assume it was a Massey deal who told you the number was wrong.

Working off of poor memory here but there has to be a solenoid the power opens for the fuel. It sounds like it is for some reason not closing when you switch it off. You should be able to find it following the wire from the switch or just tracing the fuel line. My guess is it is around the injector pump. It sounds to me like something is holding it open. Depending on linkage it could be a piece of trash such as a stick or guess something inside of it.

I agree with lawn mower. Having said that have used tractors of heavier weight with ag tires on more than one lawn with little issue for cutting grass. If wet they left ruts from the lugs but that was it. More damage came from sharp turns with the front tires.

Playing with the Devie is dangerous but if you want to find out just how far this guy is from legit ask how many he has or or lead on you have need for say four and have friend/brother/business partner or such coming through his area in say 2 days with 18 wheeler and can give him cash and load if they meet inspection. What more could he want? The tractors will for some odd reason be in another city or have been boxed and obligated to ship by a certain trucking company for some odd reasons.

Just be careful you don't give this Devil info that he can use to harm you.

I have Kubota and have been pleased with them. BOth are around 10 years old. Other brands that have good parts support are New Holland/Case (same company) and John Deere being the next two companies I would consider but Massey has good parts dealership support from all I know. Not sure on Massey now but at one time they ran lower price quality hp and then a better product line.

Even if buying used I suggest you visit dealerships near you. Sooner or later any machine will need parts and service. Of course you don't have to have the same brand dealership as the equipment is but in some cases they will not want to work on other brands. A good dealership can be a great friend. If this is your first tractor a good sales person can really help you. The first salesman I ever worked with was the best of any. He was very polite and yes talked about tractors enough to be sure of what I wanted and then needed and then he was ready to talk tractor. At same time he was easy and ready to answer the reason for his recommendations. A true pro. He was a Case/Massey person.

Think you work with EMS so this might come right to you, ear and eye protection. WHen you wind that engine and a mower up you are sitting on a lot of noise. Also the mowers will throw more than you think and further.

As to the tractor verses zero turn mower, have both went with tractor and bought the ztr for trimming and unless both my wife and I are cutting at same time we seldom use the tractor now but for price a CUT tractor and good finishing mower is hard to beat. Really just let your cheer leader help you by moving it once in a while (suggest low range to get use to it) and maybe running mower in wide open area and trying to explain the need will pass right on bye. Or be a man and do the smart thing...get a big bow and place on it and tell her happy what ever occasion it is honey! It never works for me but it might for you.
