The way it is worded not sure: does the pto also not work with tractor in low range?

If my memory is correct the standard transmission is total mechanic linkage with no hyd controls. Not sure they did on that tractor but had some they offered an addition shifter with lever for it on the dash. Not sure how it worked but don't think it affected the pto.

It would be my guess that Hardwood is correct something about the linkage is worn or broken. Again if memory is correct you will find you can pull the shift levers up some. I have had the lever to come clear of the shifter slots in the transmission preventing shifting. Had to remove the top of the transmission with the gear levers in it (this is a small plate) and get the linkage back in line. Believe it or not it was very easy for me to figure it out at a very young age by just looking at the shifter slots and the levers. Saying think you will be able to also.

Auerbach, about 25 or 27 years back had a supervisor who in telling his employment histroy said ever company I have worked for has gone out of business.So did that one and the next two he worked for. The one I worked for was at that time the largest in the world in their industry.

Can still tell you the guy's name Steve Han... Just in case there is another.

I "think" that tractor had two different set up for remotes. One being dealership added and that would be valve body on top of trans. Is so the 3 pth lever must be fully raised for the remotes to work but that should not affect what you have.

Your question about what is on the side of the transmission is that looks like a "slide" probably adjust the speed of the 3pth.

Not doubting Murf in the least but think the draft on this tractor may work a little different than the current draft does on Kubota's which do work off of pressure against the 3rd arm and raise the lift based upon that. I again think you will find the draft on this tractor works for lack of better terms off of the lift arms height. This is a farm tractor and it's draft the best I remember is designed to not try to raise the lift based upon how heavy the load is rather to keep the plows level on the tractor as the tractor travels across unlevel ground.

I do think you need to set the draft fully raised and use the position lift unless you are doing something such as plowing or using a blade. Drafts can be very touching in setting them. Not sure on the Massey but you probably need to set the height with the position lever and then set how sensitive it is with the draft lever. Again for most work you will not use the draft. Matter of fact I have to remember to move mine so it will not rust in place and I do use it with plows but the Kubota's draft to me can leave a bigger problem than not using it.

Boy those tires hold such a little bit of air any impact as EW pointed out and you probably have a tire loose from the rim. Which never happens near an air compressor and it if fully breaks loose can be a real pain to bet it seated back. Don't ask how I know on the rear wheel of my same Kubota as it has only happened twice. Glad pickup was near by each time for air tank run and run and run. The last time it broke loose totally.

The fuel my brother poured in his tractor had been in a 5 gallon can for a couple of years or so his guess. Which would have been two winters cycles and normally our lows don't drop below 20, hey to me 40 is cold.

Is it possible it was not the same type of gelling being discussed here but something else. It was shirt sleeve weather when he added the fuel for I remember working on draining it well.

But seriously you know winter air is dryer, that is why your skin has such a problem being dry and the large jump in sales of all kinds of creams. The fact cold air has 89% relative humidity could be 100% true but if the air was warmed that 89% would begin to drop as warmed. That is why as warm air goes out my exhaust pipe that is not insulated it sweats or condenses and drips into my house. Just think about where most rain (maybe all I don't know that) comes from. You have a warm air mass that meets a cold air mass. If the warm air mass has a high relative humidity you will have rain or snow. Of course warm air and cold air can be dry or full of moisture as it relates to their tempature.

Now HOT Air from Washington may be a different issue.

We all choose to belief different levels but what little I know of Leno he does no real endorsements are at least not like most do. He really is a car collector and is shown on auto shows as knowing a good bit on them.

Not sure but was he the one who bought a Harley built for Elvis and it was a junk machine and not known when he did so? Think it was him. Great story who ever it was.

Are you sure the "O" rings did not limit the travel of that spool? Am no valve mechanic but would guess you could have had a seal to go bad at same time inside the valve letting the fluid leak internally.

It is the level position where too long of shaft shows up if it is too long. All the way up or all the way down is where too short a shaft shows up.

As to using industry charts it would seem you have to know the grade of the studs firts which I doubt would be easy to find without asking dealership.

EW, left hand threads, have seen that years ago. Think it might have been an old carry over from horse drawn wagons where the nuts were threaded to be kept thight by the direction the wheel turned it it rub the axle nut. Right side R/H thread and L/H on the left side.

As to being careful about the use of 4 wheel drive with the new wheels it would have been my thought it was due to better gripe with the new tires, not difference in diameter due to wear of the old ones. Might be those two and more.

As we come close to Christmas 2009 it is hard to believe it was only 10 years ago many thought computers would all crash on 1/1/00. Might the issues we US Citizens see out of Washington be no more true than that.<br>

Have you looked to see if the throttle cable has a kink in it? It might need lubing or there could be a return spring missing or stretched. This should be simple to follow the cable to find for it will be on one end of the cable or the other and probably the engine end. No idea of there is a best way to lube that cable but if you can get oil down it from both ends that probably will work. They do make kits to do such but I have never used one.

I find it funny I use a ZTR and my brother in laws both use tractor style JDs. Paying carefull attention to my cutting (slow down when pushing leaves) have been pleased with how little any sign of the leaves is being left. It seems they are having more problems than I am with their mower and while tpying this remember one used our MIL rider this past Saturday and he ended up raking leaves left but boy does its deck ride on the grass so it pushes leaves totally. That probably is the same issue with either the design of their JD or how low they like to cut. Both are of the school the lower the better.

A quick look on the internet for Texas Lemon Law it does not cover a tractor. But public opinion is worth a lot. Had a friend a few years back which took his auto and painted a few lemons on it and parked it in front of his business which was on a reasonable major road along with some info about the issue. No idea how well that worked for him. But if you take such action be sure you are within the law so you don't end up being sued.

Now hopefully it will not get to such as that rather have you tried in very even tone to talk with the owner of the dealership where you purchased it? Also having everything in written form for them should be a big help as it shows the full story rather than a short conversation. If you have a good conversation with them send them email or fax or letter (I like the first two as you have simple proof of sending it) thanking them for their time and concern and (hopefully) their agreement the issues need to be solved.
