It depends on your area, avaiability... But not knowing your and your dealer location???? Also now is the time to buy snowblowers. Fall is the time to dicker on BH's.

But me thinks if you feel you made a good deal DO NOT go out and try and second guess yourself by asking others. Most will tell you what smokin deals you could have got...

I know a couple of people if you told them you smoked the dealer and only paid $1000 for the above because it had fallen of a truck and damaged the paint. These 2 would tell you about the dealer who offered them $500 to take it off their lot.

I think as long as you keep it as a matched unit you will have much more value down the road.

On the JD you have a 2 position dump circuit. If you move it just a little to the right it dumps slow, if you move it to the extreme right it dumps fast.

It is the inbetween where you get your hesitation.

What kind of pads are u looking 4?

If you want rubber you can make some from old tires, blocks of hardwood, angle iron serrated, etc.

Truck dock bumpers could also be an option. But to find aftermarket stuff that will fit without modifications is not likely.

Try a google search. There are several antique tractor sites out there. There are also lots of old "Orange" collectors.

Your old tractor has quite a bit of value either to a restoration project or to a parts dealer. DO NOT get taken by a crafty dealer on a trade. The loader itself is a treasure to many, check out ebay for pricing of your stuff.

If your drag is a 3ph it is also quite valuable.

A sub cut will work as long as you have the time. 2 acres all manicured is lots of maintenence.

You did good to wire that heavy. My first home welder was a 225 ad/dc buzz box 20% duty...

Bought a new experienced 250 DC 100% with arc controls and CV circuits, 2 yrs ago. Needed heavier breaker. Heavy wire was already in only had to change the breaker and outlet.

Cold to apply chemicals, HOT to wash and turn back to cold to rinse.

1500 is plenty of pressure with the right chemicals, hot water and knowledge.

I wasn't gonna chime in but do feel the need.

Playing on a tractor for a couple of weekends might sound real cool for those with out one or that haven't spent a lot of time on machinery. However spending hours doing something that "HAS TO BE DONE" when there are other chores or family things to do will get real old real quick.

Get the tractor that will allow you to mow in less than 8 hours, and I'll bet in less than 2 years you will be fussing on how to do it quicker or wishing you had got a bigger machine.

Of course if you are wealthy and do not work and only need to play then go for small and enjoy.

My lawn takes about 4 hours to mow with a 35hp 4400 JD and a 72" landpride. I'm looking to see how I can do it in 2. Week end free time is valuable to me and I have lots of stuff to do besides sit on a compact a 1/2 day every weekend, mowing. I put over 350 hours per year on mine not counting my old tractor, so it does do lots more than just mow.

I like the batwing option...A professional 72" out front mower is currently a serious consideration.

me+5 30 hp might be on the small side for hp. BUT what does your old tractor weigh? What type of tires and what shape? What is the width and lenght of the wheel base?

You can buy a smaller/lighter tractor and the weight difference will be somewhat off set with the 4wd. However stability may then become an issue.

Hydros are probably OK. I've used them on lawn mowers and very large construction equipment. I still believe in the compact class nothing will do everything well and the geared transmission with a clutch gives me much more control and finesse on a wide variety of tasks. I agree a hydro would allow me to mow the lawn faster. But working in the woods pushing the envelope on size it is gear only for me. Large equipment is focused at fairly specific tasks also.

It sounds like you might be more in line with a regular ag tractor in the 40-50 hp range. Many of these are very capable of a wide variety of tasks and have a wide variety of attachments avaiable.

The stability of the larger frame and footprint can not be over looked.

Also for me, as Ken says, DEALER SUPPORT is #1. Bad non responsive dealers are a nightmare. Read the archives.

I use Verizon wireless on my laptop now. It is not all that great. The land line is just as fast or faster.

The cell phone option is great on the road for quick access, to stay in touch, check weather etc.

I've never liked the NOAA broadcast on the road cause I never knew where they were talking about.

You have to have a solid digital signal also.

It will vary quite a bit by geographic location and the name on the machine. Smaller areas away from big cities...

I would think based on our service calls: $1.50 a mile (round trip) to come out and $50-$75 or so an hour.

Depending on the company they can also tack on hazaradous waste disposal, cleaning supplies. Caterpillar is the worst for a multi-tude of various add ons and the highest price per travel mile and per hour, they go so far as to charge for hand cleaner.

As Beagle said it's not rocket science but the new electronics over hydraulic systems, transmissions and fuel systems necessiate dealer service.

Call around ask your dealer for a spring quote for the service.

What's it gonna be worth in 20 years? 10 Years?

What tractors are out there for sale that are 10years old what are they going for?

Many of the big 3 you will get most if not all of your money back if you take care of it in 10-15 years.

My thoughts are on the trades I've made and the auction prices I have seen lately.

If you ask for a quote on the price of the profiler I hope you are sitting down when you get it. Ours go out on the job by the sq yard, multi day jobs, and minimun by the day, with operators.

Get a york type rake and plan on spending some time.

Many times a farmer will have a mechanical rock picker and or you could rent one.

If your fuel tank has been contanimated you will have to remove tank and clean it out. Use a good mix of clorox and a grease removing soap and rinse real well. This is the best method.

The anti fungus killers are tough on fuel filters. I have used up to 5 filters on 4 fill ups and treatments burning 100+ gallons per day. Carry them right in the equipment and change at power loss. Even after you think the algie should be gone keep treating and the treatment with just a minute amount of moisture makes it feel like a varnish in the pre filter drains and on the filter elements.

I remember a discussion about this issuse can't remember if it was this model exactly.

But it was a dipstick switch issue. And can not remember if the book was wrong or the dipstick was. There was a lot of stuff about it. Check the archives.

Art may weigh in on this and he may have a bullentin about it.

When checking fluid filled tires you need a pressure guadge made for fluids. Your better tire shops with tractor tire repair can direct you where to buy locally.

I am guessing: according to this if you own or get killed on a tractor you are a farmer? Around here the people that get hurt are usually the weekend city people who have never been around machinery or are moving back to their roots and have forgotten much common sense.

2 years ago, the most recent real farmer incident I recall, we did have a "REAL" farmer get tangled in a tedder when he was removing hay that was wrapped around the spindle and when the pressure was released the mechanisims moved pinning him. No permenant damage just brusied and scabbed up.

Soon it will be if you own a chainsaw you'll be a logger?

I have just added Google to my unrestricted access file. Site works fine. I'll monitor that file also.

Also in reguards to the ad blockers. The pop-ups are a bigger PITA than the having to allow traffic. I remember years ago seeing my task bar so filled up it took 5+ minutes to clear it from all the garbage.

It really gets boring listening to your we're so small nobody bothers us.

Lets hope you guys running apples and other operating systems get to the point where idle minds with creativity decide to start on someone besides MS. That would be a good thing. More SW developers having to design all new virus SW. Another whole new industry in the works.
