Hi all, after much reading I have made up my mind on brand of bh attachment. Staying with the j.d. 8b for my 970 utility tractor. Does 7900.00 picked up, installed and delivered sound like a decent deal? Thanks for your input. added this note 04/25/05= Didn't get the 8b after all, went with the bush hog brand model 750 priced at 6,000.00 installed and p/up & del. and it came in j.d. green. Haven't got it on yet as the dealer is backed up with lots of front loader add ons right now. I think I got a much better deal with this machine. Any comments?

It depends on your area, avaiability... But not knowing your and your dealer location???? Also now is the time to buy snowblowers. Fall is the time to dicker on BH's.

But me thinks if you feel you made a good deal DO NOT go out and try and second guess yourself by asking others. Most will tell you what smokin deals you could have got...

I know a couple of people if you told them you smoked the dealer and only paid $1000 for the above because it had fallen of a truck and damaged the paint. These 2 would tell you about the dealer who offered them $500 to take it off their lot.

I think as long as you keep it as a matched unit you will have much more value down the road. ....

The price of steel has taken a big jump in the last year or so.....

It can easily add $1000 or more to the price of a heavy attachment when compared to last years prices. ....

$1000 more for steel? That makes no sense to me.
I was paying about $0.38/lb for A-36 structural steel
before the big run-up in steel prices. If steel has gone
to $0.60/lb or even $1/lb, you would be looking at a TOTAL
steel cost for a 7 1/2' backhoe of less than $1000. ....

I paid $4,995.00 installed + Tax for a Rhino 75 one year ago this week. The identicle NH backhoe made by the same people on the same line was $6,899.00 + tax. I would find out who make the JD hoes and buy it from them. I was once told by a dealer that Bradco makes them but someone else told me it was Woods that made them I have no idea if either is true, but I am sure it is easy enough to find out. I got the identicle backhoe for over $1,900.00 less Which I put towards my new zero turn mower.

P.S. I bought the NH decals for the hoe and now it looks identicle to the NH hoe. The deacls were $30.00 bucks. ....

As far as prices go, between oil prices and steel prices, the car hauler I bought 11-03 has gone up $500 in price.

I went to the gas station with the Camry the other day and dropped $45 bucks into the tank and it takes $55-60 bucks to fill the pick-up.

I guess it is all sort of in line though. When I was a kid I made 2 bucks an hour, I bought a brand new Datsun for $1800 and gas was 25 cents a gallon.

Now the car is 18 grand and gas is $2.50 and wages are 20 bucks. ....

Steel prices.......

I just went to one of my steel suppliers, SIMS/Metal. They cost more than PDM, but I do not have to buy full sized pieces. A36 bar stock was about $0.62/lb. It was about $0.38 at PDM about a year ago. Cold-rolled was over buck, however. ....
