How correctly restored are they? The Farmalls always seemed a little redder to me.

Any good paint shop or auto paint dealer will help you out here. There are several quality brands and all will do the job. The biggest mistake amatures make is the mixing of reducers and hardners. I just dump in some of this and some of that.

If you are just gonna brush it on, rustoleum works ok.

I would not buy paint again from tractor supply even with the hardners the paint faded very quickly on my implements that sit out.

If I was doing a very correct restoration it would go to a paint shop. Those guys know lots of tricks.

I usually end up taking them to the dealer to match up. I have full (well anything smaller than 1/8 pipe) US and me thinks I have most metric. Of course now they are usually a cheezy driven zerk which you will either fight with (I haven't won that battle yet) or retap for a threaded one.

If you are mechanical it is not a hard job if you have a good vice.

Biggest problem is the fluids. Have a good pan and work the piston back and forth a few times to push out all or most of the fluid. Then unscrew the cap pull out the piston, remove the nut slide off the seal assembly and replace. Air tools seem to work the best for the inside work. If you can not get the nut loose make sure you wrap the shaft in rags B4 you clamp that in the vise.

Simplest route is to a hyd shop. It's a lot easier and less headache.

That said I do my own. Have one on JD loader with a intermintant leak. It's dry as a bone now and next time I use it and park it might seap. Have the seals just am not in a hurry to repair. Will wait for warm weather and live with the seap for the winter.

I would not swear to anything about labeling anymore. But Kero does come clear and dyed as does diesel.

My bulk tickets call clear kero #1 Diesel on road. And they call the dyed kero #1 fuel oil/diesel off road.

The only catch to the whole process is the low sulfur diesel on road and that only can be cut with clear kero or #1 diesel. Vendors do not like to call on road diesel #2 anymore either.

The big suppliers with stations do cut their fuel with kero it has been standard practice for years. The last thing any big supplier wants during the winter is a bunch of diesel rigs parked along the road gelled up with their fuel.

All that said you can buy straight #2 diesel or fuel oil. Dealers have no problems delivering straight or blending for you on site. Blending just costs a little more. But I do not think or believe you will get straight #2 fuel oil/diesel out of a service station pump anywhere in the North Countries this time of year.

With pumps at stations usually the difference in all the names is the road taxes paid at the pump and the dye.

Thanks Ken I guess I do remember that comment somewhere back there.

I just left the thought with the lug nut problem on the very early models. As I recall one side had a problem and it was finially tracked down to overtapped holes or something like that.

The biggest grumble I have with the lugnuts is they are behind the little dinky wheel weights.

I use the hoe quite a bit and usually only use the stick to move the tractor. So the hoe usually has the tractor in the air moving fwd and side to side. I know that is not how the book says to do it. But I am comfortable with it. I have not seen any looseness between the tractor and hoe with all of the stress I put on it.

You would probably be in the 7-10 std cord range. You have minimal splitting. That is based on the systems here. All of the systems her run year round for domestic hot water and 90% have their own wood.

If you travel, I'd recommend using the anti-freeze mixture and have a secondary furnace, oil or propane, for back up tied in the circuit.

A heat exchanger does the swap.

A small generator is also very desirable if you live far enough out in the skicks.

I am not sure there is a GOOD answer. We have been all over the world also, same travel agent as yours. Currently we do not even have a passport. YEAH! Her and I both agree if we can not drive there we probably do not need to go there.

Does the bed already have a pivot? Get a small 12v snowplow pump and cylinder. You will need to do some fabrication for a scissor hoist to work with the short stroke.

You should be able to. If I remember right the JD 4000 series you push the key in to activate the Glow plugs and you can push it in if necessary as engine starts. I do not think it is necessary on these engines.

That said: On our D8 at work you use the glow plugs for 2 minutes or more at 0F and once engine cranks you can and must turn switch back to glow. It takes awhile to get it to smooth out at a fast idle. The newer engines usually fire right up and run smooth with out 2nd use of glow plugs.

I will not give a brand preference, BUT I will say I believe you are shopping in the wrong arena on Ebay!

If you are looking for a quality buy with parts and after sale support your best bet is with a LOCAL dealer. Even if you only seek advice from the dealer and buy from a local private owner.

I've seen 3 tractors, in the last 4 weeks, the sheet metal beat all to pieces, a couple of leaks/seeps here and there but seemed mechanically sound. A little TLC and tin work would more than pay for itself later on a trade up.

Let your dealer know what $$$ range you are in and what type of tractor you need. 4x4, gear, bucket loader etc. Dealers have a lot of contacts and can locate something for you or let you know who might have something for sale. Also this should give you an indication of how supportive the dealership will be.

Mechanically there should not be a problem as long as service/parts manuals and parts are avaiable. If you can rebuild a Studebaker you sure as haeck can do a older gear shift tractor.
