Murf; Thanks for the info on a "Face Cord", I'd never heard that term. Between my Dad and two or three uncles of mine they had a buzz saw on the front of an H Farmall and somebody had a big two man chainsaw that never would start. I and some of my cousins used to help drag limbs to he buzz saw when we were kids. Most of the firewood around here is free for the taking if you want to clear some ones fencerow and clean up behind yourself. Mostly elm and soft maple. Frank.

Ibrown/tiltbed; I still have the full wheel covers off my 61 Chevy. They were neat with the checkerd flag centers. My cousin had a 62 409, dual quads 11.25 compression, that machine would fly. It finally shelled during a county blacktop drag race. Frank.

Yoperpete; I agree ther must have been exceptions at both ends of the scale not only with "K" cars but most any brand. The one we had should have never been built, but a friend still has his mothers "K" car that he drives to work. Our Son in law in northern Minnesota buys up some rust bucket Suburbans in the summer then sells them for snow beaters in the fall. Claims he makes a few bucks doing it. Frank.

Michael; I really doubt anything is wrong with the seals in the cylinder. Likely you have a faulty hydraulic coupler where the bucket curl hoses plug into your tractor that is letting hyd fluid flow in only one direction thru it. Best of luck. Frank.

Oliver; something I forgot is that a cubic foot of sand will weigh lots more than a cubic foot of feed, so that would have to be factored into how much sand you could put in the bin. If you do find something in a hopper bin, check the tonnage it was built to support. Frank.

I really don't know if this is true or not. I was told by someone a few years ago tht if you unknowingly buy something stolen at a public auction you are in the clear. If someone knows the real scoop on this, jump in and let us know. I do know that serial number plates are stolen from later model classic tractors then put on older models in an attempt to fake some more desireable models. I've been told that Super H and Super M Farmall serial plates are stolen on a regular basis. Frank.

kt, my Dad said once that hemp production was encouraged by the Dept. of Agriculture during World War 2 for the production of rope and twine for the war effort. Im sure there are many variteys of hemp some of which do not have the potential to produce drugs, but perhaps all hemp production has been banned I'm not sure. An interesting question. Frank.

One of our neighbors had a new one about 10 yrs. ago, I don't know the model number anymore. But back to the topic, I used to cut their grass quite a bit as they traveled a lot in the summer. I used their Dixon ZTR. It was a real nice machine to run, did a nice job on their rather hilly lawn. If I were to go back to a dedicated mowing machine I surely would give them a good look. Peters/ ncrunch; You guys are making me feel old now. Most of the rural roads in the county we lived in when I was a kid were just mud roads, most of the road ditches were higher than the road it self, and a lot of the way brush was grown up along each side making the road a snow trap. Most any amount of snow and some wind had us snowed in. The county had some crawler tractors with "V" plows that would get us out in a day or two. I remember waking up in the night hearing the "clank clank" of those old cats going past. In the mid 50's the county got a lot of roads graded with nice deep wide ditches, high grades, and most of the brush cleared out, that was a great improvment. Being snowed in wasn't a real panic situation then as everyone in the country was prepared with a big wood pile lots of canned goods in the cellar, Amos and Andy or the Great Gildersleve on the radio. I used to like snow too when I was a kid but have mostly gotten over that by now. Great memories. Frank.

Harvey; going from a 4 in. to a 5 in. will take you from 37,000 to 59,000 lbs. of push. that is a lot of pressure, be sure the frame of your splitter is ready for that much power. Best of luck. Frank.

DT; Your owners manual should have a section on breakin, I'd follow what it recommends. I've never liked to run a fresh engine real hard for the first day or two, but others will say the opposite. Running the engine at full RPM to operate the backhoe really is'nt necessary, about 2/3 to 3/4 of full throttle is plenty. I can be jerky enough at 2/3. Frank.

The original Farmall "Cub" built in the fourtys and fiftys had a PTO that ran backwards. It was a small diamater shaft with more splines than a standard 540 of today. Frank.

Bunky1267; Just wondered if your picture got reversed or if your mower is truly a left hand discharge. To answer your question on brand, I don't know what the brand is, but I've never saw a left hand discharge. I've used a 7 ft. Land pride RFM for several seasons. It does a nice job, but not quite the quality of cut of a dedicated rider with MMM. My main use is for road ditches where sometimes you hit objects that a rider mower is'nt able to handle or the rougher terain. The ease of using the quick coupler on the 3pt. and the much easier servicing are my main reasons for liking it over a MMM. Frank.

Thanks for filling me in on the problems I would have without lots of gasket and injector changes. I'll just wait till next pickup trade time. Till this past season I had grown corn all my working life and what with the huge corn piles in almpost every cornbelt town I'd like to do my part to use up the extra corn and not be quite so dependent on foreign oil sources who have mainly their wellfair in mind not ours. There are quite a number of new ethanol plants in the building or startup stage right now, so it seems to be here to stay. Frank.

ncrunch32. I didn't follow up well enough on this before I made my first comment so I was unaware of his using solar panels for a power source. I don't know much about the progress on lower cost more effecient solar panels, but surely someone is going to have a breakthru someday. kthompson, I've allways had the same question. I'm sure that my answer is wrong, but here goes. My thought has been that whatever is producing the horsepower whether it be a horse, gas engine, electric, or hydraulic could produce the given horsepower with out in the case of a horse stoping to rest, a gas engine running at it's absolute max till it destroyed it's self, or at what level of each ones max is the horsepower rated? I made a set of bolt on bucket forks once for a different loader I once had. Kschwumm you are correct they were too far ahead of the lift point plus I could'nt see the forks. It was difficult to use them unless I had a helper to be my "eyes". Frank.

My wife has a JD lawn sweeper she uses mainly for leaves. It does pretty well if you pick up the leaves on almost a daily basis before they sink into the grass. After a rain matts the leaves down it just doesn't do too well, so then she mows it first to get the leaves loose from the grass. I don't think she has ever picked up grass clippings with it, she mows so often that there just aren't enough clippings to even see. Frank.

I've got a good friend who has been an independent garage operator most of his life and he will echo what has been already said about collection. He's just too nice of a guy to turn anyone away. He is still in business, but now requires a cash deposit on any parts before he will order them. He mainly works on cars and light trucks, So I will answer yes I do use a person who charges about half what the GM and Ford dealerships charge. I'm sure all of the above would apply to repair of compacts and their related equipent. Best of luck. Frank.
