I noticed something tonight while plowing. The lever is kicking out of float as soon as I apply pressure to the plow. This may be causing my problem.

This "rat wall" sounds almost like a footer. By the time one was done with that, it might be better to pour a footer and build from stick. I do have rodents. No rats that I am aware of, but plenty of mice, chipmonks and ground hogs. I think paying close attention to the perimeter and the careful use of "oh not that" poisons if something appears would suffice (I hope!).
PS...also plenty of cats around here.

I was told they aren't sold seperately, I can't believe a dealer wouldn't be able to get you some though. They really don't impress me much, I thought they would be one peice units but instead are two pieces of flat steel cut to shape and drilled out. They are then welded to the push bar loader frame.

I am in approximately the same situation as you. Mowing, plowing and maintaining a few acres. The R-4's are NOT good in the snow, turfs are better, (I have had both)and my machine now has chains on all fours with those tires. I would spend the $$ for a tc33 as well. The 29 will bog down under a moderately heavy load (so did my 4100).It is a large, heavy machine and can use all the hp you can afford for it. The 33 will give you more power in the same weight package. I plan on trading for a Kubota 2910 in a year. Same HP, lighter, extra cylinder and smaller frame. The features on the tc are very user friendly and it IS a great mowing machine with the 72" belly deck. Happy shopping!

My Kubota was delivered some years ago with what was called "farm turf" tires. I found them to be very easy on the lawn (better than the r4) and very good in mud and snow, outperforming the r4 in every way for my uses. They had a wide profile like an r4 and may fit your rims if you can find some. I have been unable to buy a tractor with them since (not a factory option I guess).

Joe, My two cents. Go with a trailer rated for more than your intended load and DEFINATELY spend the extra two hundred bucks for brakes. Remember, the road is not always going to be dry and smooth. That 5000# + will push that f350 through a slick intersection when you least expect it. Depending on how large you go, our company has much better luck with dual wheel tandem axle than the triple axle single wheel models.

Eric, I changed the oil on my 4100 at the first filter change interval even though the dealer didn't suggest it be done when I asked (I don't remember what that was, 50hrs??). My kubota dealer not only suggested both hyd. oil and filter change at around 50 hours, but supplied the filter, oil and mechanic to do it. I did notice shavings in both but never experienced any problems. A fella that lives down the road from me is a J/D mechanic and told me that their dealership was experiencing an above average transmission failure rate on those machines. Take that for what it is worth, they had only been on the market for a year at the time and that is one dealer, not a good sampling. I did not have a problem except the hydro pedals progressively became more resistant to pressure even with good lubrication. It appears to be a well built machine, I liked mine. My most recent purchase, a TC29D doesn't recommend an oil change for several hundred hours. I did it after the first mowing season at 80hrs. This machine has two (expensive) hyd. oil filters on it and I found absolutely no evidence of shavings in the oil or anywhere else. I went with N/H multi-vis oil which helps in the cold. Next change both the engine and trans. get synthetic. Happy Motoring!

The first quote is in on my barn project and I need some good input. I believe this will end up being the best price as well. It is from the Mennonite builders. $21,500 for 40'x60'x14'high. Framed for two overhead doors and including two entrance doors and windows. This also includes laminated poles and a partitioned 20'x40' shop with metal ceiling and storage above. All cement work is included as well. Haven't heard from Morton yet. The price sounds good to me, but I'm no expert on this type of thing.

I didn't realize that was the case with those trusses. Nice to know, I wonder how much extra they are? I'm still waiting for a price from everyone I have talked to . Must be the economy is still roaring.

Just received and installed my new rear tire chains. I now have them on all four wheels. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I can't believe how bad those R4's were in the snow without them, the machine idles through the greasy stuf now. I can't wait for the dealer to deliver my new Curtis plow. Let it snow!!

Rod, I could hook you up with my brother-in-law. He was selling magnets for all sorts of things. One for your water pipes, one for your car fuel line, one for your wrists and so on. They were around $300 as well, and he probably has some left at bargain prices. Consider this, Detroit struggles to meet EPA goals in it's vehicles every year. If those things worked, every car would have one and Al Gore could stop trying to force everyone (except himself) to drive a roller skate. I haven't seen any in the hospitals on heart patients eather. I can't believe a legitimate dealer would try and sell that type of thing to someone. The $200.00 fabric protectant that costs them $2.00 to spray on the seat is bad enough. I have a relative that is a doctor of anthropology, he says don't buy the sonic bug repellers that plug into the walls eather. Hope this helps.

I don't pretend to be an expert on built vs. assembled especially since the parts to build tractors are purchased all over the world, however the 4100 I owned was built in Japan by Yanmar. Possibly the larger ones are made and assembled in total in this country but I highly doubt it. In defense of that, you should get the best of everything if the company did it's homework.

Perhaps a doctor or chemist could answer that question better than a tractor board, where are you Dr. Allen? Exhaust from any type of internal combustion engine is not a good thing to breathe. A well ventilated area should be used if the machine is running inside or an evacuator hose connected to the exhaust. Too much of a bad thing is no good no matter what it is, ever read of the toxic chemical compounds found in cigarette smoke? I know people that have worked around these engines all their lives with no noticeable side effects however had they performed maintenance with the engines running and the overhead doors closed, well you know the rest. I'm sure someone else on the board may be able to be more specific.

From what I have been told on this board, a lot depends on it's use. The one thing I would look into is the clearance between the rear tires and the blade tip. A six footer might not rotate. I was surprised by my tc29. I have less clearance for my old 6' blade than I had on my smaller J/D. The blade scrubs the tire when I rotate it 180 degrees and barely makes it past the tow bar. I could have put a 7' on the J/D, but not on this larger machine!

Very much like the auto makers. They package the best stuff with high end packages to make you spend more overall. I recently purchased a new truck and the intermitten wipers were packaged with power windows and locks. Such an item should be standard on any vehicle (the ash tray is and I don't smoke).It's a money game.

Thanks Charlie. I think what you are describing would make it a direct mounting to the blade. I am trying to use the plow and Hyd. angle fixture as well to enable the hydroturn. Cutter

Don't forget your super steer adds another 1000. That makes the trade difference 4500 for equal machines. I don't know how old yours is, but the price is not far off of what I was being asked for very much the same type trade. Mine has fewer hours. Good luck.
