DOES THE 970 HAVE A SEAT SAFTEY SWITCH? I WOULD JUMP THE SAFTEY SWITCH AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM QUITS. ALSO IF YOU JUMP THE SAFETY SWITCH WITH A REAL SMALL AMPERAGE FUSE AND IF THE SWITCH EVER OPEN IT WILL BLOW THE FUSE BECAUSE THE POWER TRIED TO FLOW THRU THE FUSE AND IT WILL BLOW BECAUSE THE AMPRAGE IS HIGHER THEN THE RATING OF THE FUSE.

If you decide to fill your rear tires, in your case where you are doing it to make your tractor more stable on hills, you probably ought not fill them over half way. Any more than that, and you are adding weight on top of the center of the axle, which won't help the stability. Just put your valve stem at 9 or 3 o'clock when you fill them. I use non toxic windshield washer fluid in mine.

My advice would be to use the tractor hydraulics instead of the PTO pump. I believe your $$ would be better spent this way, as having the rear remote hydraulic connections block comes in handy for a lot of other things, like a hydraulic top link cylinder, wood splitter, dump trailer, etc. The tractor you are buying has plenty of flow and power to run the BH. And like you said, it makes for a cleaner looking setup.

I use the remote hydraulics for my backhoe on my Cub 7260, and it works fine. My Cub BH is a Woods 7500 with yellow paint. I would recommend a 16" bucket as a good all around bucket. Any smaller and you'll spend a lot of time moving any appreciable amount of material. Any bigger, and it doesn't have enough power when the digging gets real tough. I've found the 16" bucket works well for digging stumps too.

I get about 15 mpg with my V10 going back and forth to work. I have a manual 5 speed, 373 rear end. Pulling my 10k lb camper, I get about 9 mpg.

I have a 1999 CC 7260. It's a very similar model to what you are looking at. Parts are no problems for CC. I don't know where in VT you are located, but my dealer in Milton VT is excellent to deal with, knows these tractors, and stands behind his work. I've had real good luck with my tractor. If you want more info, let me know.

My Dad was a Corsair mechanic at the end of the war, and still has all of his manuals. I haven't looked at them for quite sometime, but one thing that always amazed me was the engine layout. They had 3 banks of 9 cylinders. Each cylinder had 2 spark plugs (for a total of 72 plugs!). They also carried 50 gals(!) of oil in the sump. Water injection was used for extra power when needed, but was used sparingly as it really raised heck with the engine. Dad always said the pilots really loved (and were thankful for)the kick in the pants the injection gave them!

I live in a frost area (northern VT). I've had good luck building pole barns and sheds that don't move by using pyramid shaped posts. I make a form with plywood, make sure the bottom of them is below frost and the top is above grade, and fill them with concrete. I generally make the bottom about 18-24" square, tapering up to about 10" square on top. By making pyramid shaped forms, when the ground freezes and lifts (like it always does), it will lift away from the post. I've tried sono tubes, pressure treated posts with slippery covers on them, and a pipe within a pipe. Nothing I've tried works better than these pyramid shaped posts.

Am looking at, possibly to buy, a Ford 9N tractor. Year unknown yet but the last owner barn kept it for 30 years and didn't do much heavy work with it, he was not the first owner so I know it is older than 30 years. The body (hood included) is in excellent condition, has new brakes, points, plugs, and manifold. Tires in good condition also. Has a 3-point hitch and PTO. Runs good to my knowledge. The tractor would be used to plow a small garden, brush hog pasture, occasionally grade 1/2 mi. of road, pull small farm trailer and other misc. jobs on a 10 acre flat to rolling farm. It doesn't have any attachments being sold with it and the asking price is $2,200. This will be my first tractor so very inexperienced and would appreciate expert opinions.<br>

My tractor is having a full service plus a new starter and starter housing,
clutch, pressure plate, seat, hoses (backhoe and frontend loader)also new
pins for the loader and backhoe before I pick it up. I'm hopeful that it will
be a tractor that's dependable. I have 12 acres to play on and I'm anxious to get going.

I had a similar problem with a 4300 HST a few weeks ago. I had less than 10 hours on it and it would cut out exactly as if the ignition was switched off. I believe that this is an electrical problem and not fuel related due the instant shut off of the engine. I had a JD service rep come out and told him about the

I recently purchased a 4300 HST, 4 WD, Ag Tires, no loader but with the loader valves (DSCV) for $15500, so it seems like you may be able to get a little better deal that you currently have although the shortage of the 4000 series can be expected to keep the prices higher than normal.<br>Good luck - by the way the tractor is great !!

I can partially answer one of your questions - I don't know how heavy a load of hay or corn is, but I have a similar size tractor (JD4300) and routinely pull a load of 5500lbs (in a tandem trailer) without even noticing it is there. My manula says that I can pull up to 4 times the tractor weight , or about 10000 lbs.

I was luck enough to get a 4300 HST off the lot. The same dealer has several 4200's sitting on his lot in San Diego. I don't know where you are, but I do know that dealers routinely transfer tractors between themselves to meet demand. If you are anywhere near Southern California and would like the dealer details, e-mail me. FYI the price for the 4300 HST 4WD with DSCV was $15,500.

I just purchased a 4300 HST for our horse stable business. Only about 4 hours so far and no problems. I am very interested in the outcome of this problem (in case I fall victim to the same thing) and would really appreciate it if all of you who have this problem could keep us updated as to your progress in getting a fix.
