I know it would be kinda tough to go to a 4110 from the 4310, but I couldnt be happier with mine. That little tractor has done some pretty tough work. I only have a llittle over 4 acres, but it was in pretty rough shape when I bought it. I've mowed weeds and brush taller than the hood and even pushed over a couple of trees 10 - 12". Of course the ground was soft after a rain. Like you, I did some shopping and within the big 3, size for size the specs are pretty close, but nuthin runs like a deere. Good luck with your next JD

Thanks for the inspiration to install work lights. After reading your post, I went to TSC and got a couple for $9.95 ea. Turns out my little 4110 has a connection behind the seat for the factory llights and a switch position to turn them on so a couple of paddle connectors and I was in biz.

Jack, The good news is that you have a lot to choose from out there. The bad news is also that you have a lot to choose from. Seriously, for the uses you have described, anything in the 20-30 HP range should fit the bill. Hydro trannys are easier to operate, but an expensive option. Also, consider getting a loader, they are just TOO handy. I'm partial to Deere (4110 HST)but you will find just as many guys who are just as happy with their Kubotas and New HOllands. Look through the post here and you will find a ton of info about the different brands. There is a wealth of knowledge in these pages. I know it helped me make an informed decision. Thanks for the input everyone. I ended up buying a Stihl today. A small one 017 w/ 16" chain. No more that I have to do, I think it will serve me well. I was ready to go the cheap route, but stumbled upon a dealer in all places...Cut -N- ShootTx who shot me a price just $40 more than the Poulan or Craftsman so I bit. Testing starts tomorrow. Thanks again

You won't be sorry if you go with the 'Bota, it's an escellent machine. I almost bought one myself, but at the last minute went to the JD 4110. It's 21 HP with HST and FEL. I have 4.5 arces that is pretty rough and so far it has handled everything I have asked of it. Yet I think it's manuverable enough to do the finish work when I'm ready. Blue Green or Orange will do the job for you just fine, I agree to shop as much for the dealer as the machine. Good luck

I had a dealer in Livingston Tx quote me 18,995 for a 3130 with FEL and 5' cutter. This compares to the 16,500 quote I got for a L3010 froma different dealer. What I don't know is there going to be that much difference in tractor prices or if the diff is in the dealers. Happy hunting

Norm,
Can I suggest getting the deflector chains on your cutter. They are an option on some cutters. The deflector strips will help but the chains are better IMHO. I had a friend killed a few years back by something thrown from a cutter (from 75 yards away) A little extra safety never hurts

Thanks for the info gentlemen....at least I know that it is possible to use a PHA with the 4110. I only have about 250 holes to dig, maybe I can find one to borrow or a cheap one at auction

I was looking at and pricing the 3010 about a month ago here in Texas but none of the dealers have any because Kubota is replacing it with the 3130. I had one dealer quote me a price on a 3130 of 18,995 with FEL and 5' cutter. This was about 2,000 higher than the 3010. If any dealers in your area still have any 3010's you may be able to get a good deal on it since they are being discontinued

Finally bit the bullit and made a deal on a JD 4110 HST w/410 FEL and 413 cutter. $14,000 out the door. I'm a little nervous about the HST but I haven't heard anything bad about them.

Thanks to everyone on here for all your input and advise. It sure helped me make an informed decision. Can't wait till Monday when I go pick it up. Yeee Hawww!!!
