I am attending a meeting in Canada next week and Wednesday night's social event is curling. I grew up watching it on the Duluth MN tv sports but never played it. In an email, one colleague from Edmonton says he is ready to kick some Wisconsin butt. To get him PO'd I told him it looks to be some kind of old lady's sport like shuffleboard.

If you're not already too offended, I would appreciate any words of wisdom that my Canadian friends might offer. He just might be out for blood.

As another non-curler, all I can tell you is that it seems that you can curl better after a few shots of anti-freeze.

Either that or you just THINK you're playing better, still, it doesn't hurt as much when you slip and fall after a few......

Other than that all I can offer in the way of advice is, don't bring any cheese, ours is BETTER...... {;-p>

Best of luck. ....

You know, I think we're getting somewhere here. The stone (I think that's what it's called) does look like a block of cheese with a handle.

Plus alcoholic beverages and ice, it's a winning combination. ....

Now if we could just get around the work part of your visit to give you some more R & R time, you'd be all set.

Best of luck. ....

Murf, I'll have much of Friday and all of Saturday to look around. They make us stay over a Saturday night so that we can get the reduced airfares.

Post curling report:
My biggest comment is that it was alot more fun than I expected. The Edmonton self proclaimed "curling expert" knocked his broom into the stone twice and finally gave up. One German guy did a face plant onto the ice. The blood from his lip froze instantly and left a semi permanent mark. I got to be the "skip" who gets to direct the broomers as to when to sweep and gets to push the last two stones. My team even won. All in all, a good time.
