I have under 2 acres. I need to do some finish grading, backfill around a pole barn, maintain a gravel driveway, and dig post holes. I think my current little JD lawn tractor will be fine for mowing.

I was considering the JD 2210 but was concerned with the required "sub compact" post hole digger. I've also considered the JD 790 since it's got more muscle, will run all the 'standard' implements and the price is fair... but it's not hydrostatic. I'm now looking at Kubota. Which models would be good for my application?

I would look at the B-series, 7510 and 7610. If you don't mind spending a little more, possibly the 2410. I used to own a sub-compact, but grew frustrated with the limited Cat-1 3-point. The lift arms on the Sub-compacts are just too short to be versatile. There is equipment made to fit these machines, but you will find that there are limitations. I'm not slamming the subs, they are nice machines, but the 3-points can be a problem. I had narrowed it down to the 4115 Deere, TC24 Boomer, and the B2410. The wife decided we needed a B7800. It was a few bucks more than the B2410, but a larger tractor with more horsepower.

Just a caution, the B7xxx series tractors do not have position control on the three point. The 2410, 2710, and 2910 do. Look into whether this is something that would be important to you. Good luck. ....

You may be unfamiliar with hitch designations but there are catagory O the smallest, then O-1 then 1-2, 2-3,and 3-4 for the very largest of tractors. Unfortunately the market was caught off it's feet a little with the demand for O-1 with all the sub-compacts coming out and many people tried to sell the 1-2 cat implements for them and they did not work properly. ....

I am with beale on this a B7510 or 7610 or 2410 if you have the money to spend. I have a B7500 and love that little tractor. Get a kubota, you will be much happier with it. This is a lot coming from a kid who grew up with john deere. I still have 3 john deere tractors. ....

The quality of the dealer is as important or more important than the brand. Don't get sucked into the "my brand is better than yours" wars. I'd rather have a Deere or New Holland from a great dealer than a Kubota from a poor one, and vice versa. ....
