Hi all, we bought a 790 w/ loader and finishing mower 2 weeks ago and it's arriving tomorrow morning. I'm a first time owner, but have operated various-size tractors in the past.
One question I have (which the manual may answer when it arrives); is there a break in process I should follow? We will use the 790 for moving sawdust, manure and light grading...also for mowing 16+ acres of pasture.
Also, where can I find (if available) a repair, parts, maintinance manual(s)? I perform all the maintinance on our current equipment, so the manuals would be invaluable. Thanks much in advance, I'm glad to own a Deere! :D

Good luck. I think you made a great choice. Then again I amy be aliyyle prejudiced ;)
I love my 790 and found that between this site and the manual that comes with the tractor I have plenty of info. The general maintenace is laid out simply in the manual. If you want in depth repair manuals or parts you can get them at the link below. Hopefully you won't need any repairs until well after the 2 year warranty expires.
They don't really give any specific break in rules that I remeber but I tried not to let it idle needlessly during the first 50 hours and tried not to go over PTO speed. Once I got the break in oil out at 50 hours I treated it like all my other vehicles, proper maintenance, hard work with a minimum of abuse. Also now I rev it to the redline a little more freely when/if needed.
Again good luck with the tractor! ....

I'll add my congrats as well. F350 pretty well covered the break in. I don't think Deere has an "official" break-in technique outlined in the manual, but a little common sense is all that's required. Your dealer can get you the service and parts manuals. Forty years from now you'll be glad you have them when your 790 finally breaks LOL ....

Ha, definetly...it'll run forever!
A little background: My neighbor has 3 JDs...a new 990, an M and an A...the A is truley awesome, i cant recall the year, though. He had a 790 but he needed the extra oompf of the 990. The only issue he had in his 2 rough years of ownership was a leaky piston on the loader. Half the reason I went with a Deere was that I used his 790 many a time and it was perfect for caring for the horses, cutting grass, etc. That and I like the Yanmar engines from when I worked on marine engines between semesters of school. The Yanmar diesels were my favorite (durability, longevity, and easy to work on).
Welp, thanks again and i'm sure i'll be back shortly with questions.
PS - thanks for the manual link, lawman...it'll gimme something to do tonight when i can't sleep :P ....

Don't ask me how many times I read that manual while waiting the month and a half for my 790 :( I wish it only needed to occupy one night, unfortunately my dealer had none in stock when I ordered. I had tractor envy in the worst way reading all the other "new owner" posts. ....
