I want to reverse the loaded rear turf tire rims on my JD850 to widen the overall tread width. It's not clear from my operator's manual or from my visual inspection that reversing the rim will widen the tread width appreciably. The manual shows eight different permutations for adjusting width with ag tires. Can I reverse turf tire rims to widen the base? If so, what is the best technique for manhandling since a loaded rear tire is listed as weighing almost 700 lbs.?

Gee, no responses. Guess I'll try one while recognizing that I don't know anything about reversing tires. I've never felt a need myself. I don't operate on serious side-hills, and my turfs already track several inches wider than my 5' snow blower. It's my impression that reversing tires works because the wheels are mounted on the hub more to the outboard than to the inboard side. There’s a greater distance between the hub centre and the inboard side of the rim than to the outboard side. So, reversing the wheels puts the greater distance on the outboard side, which makes a wider track. The valve stems do end up in the inside of the tire, and there is some loss of traction with directional tires such as ags. I don't know why reversing the wheels wouldn't work the same for ags and turfs.
If I had 700 lbs. tires to deal with, I'd probably just call the mobile ag tire service company that is available here. They'd probably unload the tires swap them and reload them. It would be a lot easier than doing it myself, but because it costs, I'd probably have to have a very strong reason for reversing the tires.

I don't recall ever seeing a tire which could not be reversed, how much wheel track you will gain is up for debate, but it should be ok, other than little things like the valve stems will be on the inside. As for the easiest way to do it...call a tire service, seriously, if they are in the area they will probably do it for less than the cost of the Rub-A535 you will need after doing it yourself.... Best of luck. ....

CPT you do not have to reverse them. Just move them to the opposite side, w/o turning them around. Works for ags. Me thinks turfs no problem either way you do it. I can not believe 700# per tire, maybe both. You would have to have almost 500# of fluid per tire, not splitting hairs 10# per gal I KNOW Water only 8.62 and calcium correctly mixed is over 10 lbs BLAB, BLAB, BLAB! It would be fifty gallons per tire - I do not think so unless you have special tires. ....

I have a 1984 JD 950 with AG tires. I assume your wheels are the same as mine.
The outer rim has lugs with 4 different spacings to which to attach the wheel center section. Is your center section already attached to the lug to give the widest spacing without reversing the center section?
The center section is slightly dish shaped. Reversing the center section will turn the dish outward increasing the spread. ....

2 guys can eaily swap your tires from side to side. The trick is to keep them upright. If they fall over, strap on the back brace, because 2 guys are going to have a tough time getting up right again. ....
