I bought a used 5510 john deere tractor, its a diesel and I know nothing about diesels. I live in Michigan, so I have a hard time getting it started in the winter. does anyone know if it has glow plugs. it has a air intake heater, is this sufficient for cold weather. i push the key in and hold it to activate the heater, but my light never goes off, is it supposed to or does it just say on. need help please thanks tim

You hold the switch to the warm glow plug position at all times on a cold engine. In the winter I hold mine for a count of 7 in the summer a count of 3. Adjust as necessary but do not hold it forever. ....

It has a glow plug...

BUT, get a block heater installed and plug it in for a couple of hours BEFORE you plan on using the tractor ....
