I purchased a 4400 about three weeks ago. 1300 hrs, Great tractor, but I found that in the higher gears, going up hill the clutch slips, and sometimes will come to a stop. I have not looked in my manual, I am at my real job... But, is there an adjustment for the clutch in the manual/CD? it is hydrostatic. Just wondering... I will look tonight in the manual. Thanks
Jerry

I'm not a JD authority so am talking generally. At those hours it could be due for a pedal adjustment, no big deal. The other possibility is a worn-out clutch, a different matter. If it's the first, don't keep using it or it will become the second. ....

Yes clutch can be adjusted. I do not have my manual up here. There is a specific set of steps to follow to adjust.
Mine has ove 1800 hours and it was adjusted early after break in and has not needed since. But I do not ride it.
You will need the manual to do it correctly.
JDGreen might weight in on this also. I'll try to remember to bring manual up tomorrow night when I come in. ....

Here are the steps from the tech manual:
1. If the linkage or pedal have been removed or
disturbed, complete all steps. If the linkage has not
been removed or disturbed, complete only steps
three, seven, and eight.
2. Remove cotter pin (A) and disconnect the clutch rod
from the clutch arm (B).
3. Hold turnbuckle (C) on the clutch linkage and
loosen lock nuts (D).
4. Move the clutch lever up until the clutch shaft
contacts the clutch lift lever (no freeplay).
5. Hold the clutch lever at this position and adjust the
turnbuckle until the linkage will enter the clutch
arm hole.
6. Install the clutch rod, washer and cotter pin.
7. Adjust the turnbuckle until the clutch pedal has 20
mm (0.780 in.) free travel, measured at center of
clutch pedal face.
8. Hold the turnbuckle and tighten the lock nuts.
Basically, if you have free travel in the pedal and it still slips, then you need to split the tractor and replace worn clutches. The linkage mentioned is the rod connected to the clutch pedal. ....

Thanks,
I have the CD manual, and will try that. There seems to be alot of travel from petal movement to engauging. How big of a job is it to break and replace clutch? I assume the window dressing will be the most time consuming to change the clutch huh.

A new set of disks is around $300.00. If you need a complete clutch assembly, it's over $1000.00. ....
