I have a Kubota M4000 tractor produced in the late 1970's. My operators manual says that I should use SAE80 fluid for transmission and hydraulics. Everyone tells me that I should use Super UDT, but my hydraulics are not working properly with it. I live in Texas, so it doesn't get really cold. I'm wondering if the thicker fluid might work better, but I'm afraid of blowing up my tractor. Does anyone else have a M4000 and know about this situation?

Don't know Kubotas but surely there's more to the fluid specs than the viscosity number -- which is not much of an issue anyway. If the same fluid serves both hydraulics and transmission, make sure it's dual purpose. Many current lubricants weren't available when your manual was written. ....

Your machine is a good old-fashioned gear drive machine that actually needs the thicker oil.
In fact you can run any top-quality oil such as Kubota UDT, Case / IH Hy-Tran, JD Hy-Gard, Shell Donax, or Texaco TDH.
Just look on the label of any of them and it will likely show that it meets or exceeds the Kubota standard.
BTW, Super UDT is extra thin stuff designed for hydrostatic drive units.
