Seems like I remember a discussion about this but can not find.
I have always run the lo guard. JD split tractor 5 or so years ago to replace a transmission shim.
There are seeps of oil at trans and bell housing split and at R axle/tran housing split.
If I switch to the heavier hi guard what are chances it will help reduce seep?
Seep equals a drip about every 6-8 hours running or sitting.
JD does not show gaskets for this. I think they use a sealant. I wonder if can loosen all bolts pry apart enough to squirt fresh sealant between castings? I'm not adverse to splitting and resealing but guess it will be a all day project.

Harvey, the first thing that comes to mind is, how would you ever get the joint clean if you did split it? If you are correct in that it was sealed by JD and there is no gasket, you would need to scrape all the old sealant off and get both surfaces clean of oil before you put the new stuff in there.
That would surely require a full split, not just opening it enough to squirt something in the crack.
Secondly, it's already leaking so IMHO you have nothing to lose by trying a 'liquid' solution of some form. If it was me I'd try something like Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. It barely changes the viscosity of the oil you have now, but it does dramatically increase the cohesion of the oil.
This is normally only a benefit in that it keeps oil from just running down into the sump. In your case it mightgreatly slow or even stop the seepage.

You are right I can live with it if it parked outside. Its been like this for 3-4 years. Problem is I park inside by floor drain during winter. This winter it parked 8-10 days or so at a time it makes a mess runs into drain. Thought about a pan under it with papers in it but would have to move pan when come in from snow removal then put back when tractor drained of snow.
I really don't care about the oil getting into drain either.
Dogs walk under tractor paws get all oily and they track thru house. 6 dogs currently. All used!

Wow, too many dogs to put overshoes on all of them. So maybe a pan with some oil dri and a stick to push it in and out with. I've had good luck with the JD sealant on non-gasket things, but Murf is right, things need to be squeaky clean. ....
