I have a 4110, about 6 years old with 220 hours +/- on it.
About 4-5 starts ago, it started taking longer to start, 2 starts ago it took a very long time, it really struggled to get going, and once going sporadically gave off smoke which it normally only does when first starting.
Now it will not start, some grey smoke comes out, but it will not get going, I've been jumping it with my car to insure there is enough juice.
I changed the fuel filter, the fuel line is self bleeding I believe.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

How fresh is the fuel? Where did the fuel come from?
If you pull the air filters you can start it with wd-40 it will lub the cylinders. Do not use starting fluid except for a very small amount.
The only other issue could be the shut of selinoid, but I would not look there first.
Make sure u have a good battery. ....

Thank you Harvey, I will give those all a shot, I was thinking of draining the fuel in the tank (1 gallon or so) and getting some fresh fuel.
I will report back. ....

I drained all the fuel, put in new fuel with injector cleaner and stabilizer, jumped the tractor with my car, tried starting 3-4 times (after using cold start procedure) for 20-30 seconds each time, it turned over and produced gray smoke, it was trying to get going but did not do so, I sprayed a little started fluid (did not have WD40) in the air filter, it knocked a few times on the next start try, then same results - some gray smoke, no start.
any other ideas appreciated.
Thank you.

If it not fire and run on start fluid... The smoke says it is getting fuel.
Can not remember if operator manual shows timing marks or not. But it sound like either it jumped time or injector pump jump time. But not run on ether would make me believe timing.
DO NOT go off on a timing mission yet. I may have brain cramped here but it is where I would go. I am very mechanical and that stuff not scare me. I do my own work so no money invested in a trial and error.
We have some very smart guys on here one my have another thought. ....

DRankin,
Thank you for your interest in my problem.
I think it has glow plugs, but am not certain. My manual says to turn the key to the start position and let it sit there for 3 seconds until I hear a click, then start. I have never done this in 6 years, it always started right up when I turned the key all the way. I have tried turning the key to the first position and letting it sit for several seconds, but no start occurs.

That manual language indicates you have glow plugs.
My 4100 usually started without the 3 second delay, but the colder the weather, the more you need that pre-heat to start the combustion cycle.
I would find the fuse and check the wiring to the glow plugs and make sure that system is functioning correctly before you try anything else. ....

bbmarkey, you don't say, but once it is running is there any difference between now and before this started?
Power loss, hesitation, sputtering, etc?
Also, and just as important if not more so, once the tractor does start, and gets warmed up, does it restart fine if you only shut it off for a few minutes?
Best of luck. ....

I checked the glow plug fuse, and all fuses, they are fine which is too bad, that would have been an easy fix. Though I never used the plug warm up procedure to start the tractor. The tractor is in a garage below the house, so it never gets too cold. ....

Thank you for your interest in my problem Murph.
It won’t start now, the last time I did get it started, it took quite a bit of cranking, started rough with a longer period of smoke, and a little white smoke I think (it was weeks ago now), it was a bit uneven at times when running and occasionally gave off smoke which is not normal. I ran it for about 15 minutes that time. The couple of times before that, it took progressively longer to start, but ran fine once started.
I can’t answer the last question about the restart since I cannot get it started.
Interested in any ideas you have, happy to answer any other questions.
Bernard
