Hello, I'm looking at a 2001 JD4100G 4x4,145 hrs, bucket, box blade, 60" bush hog, diesel, older JD7 backhoe. $10,000. owner says backhoe should have bigger return line that can be easily installed with a T and an on-off valve. He used backhoe 30 minutes and said heat was a problem with stock size hydraulic hoses, but saw a modified set up as decribed on a local tractor that works well.
He's a reputable guy that bought a bigger machine and doesn't need this one. whaddaya think?

I had a 2000 4100G.

I have to tell you that 5 foot brush hog is too big for this tractor. The 4100 does not have the weight or the horse power to properly run this size cutter.

And as to the backhoe, the only Deere hoe engineered for the 4100 is the 46 Backhoe. If he has a 7 hoe on it I would seriously question the mounting system.

A poorly engineered hoe mount, or a mount that relies on the 3 point hitch can bust a compact tractor right in half.

"He used backhoe 30 minutes and said heat was a problem with stock size hydraulic hoses"..... or maybe not! Unlike the HST models, the 4100G has NO OIL COOLER.

An over-sized hoe and limited cooling capacity all add up to potential problems with this set up.

I demo'ed a 4100 when they were fresh out of the box. Dealer brought it out with a 6 ft. rear mt. finish mower. Way too much mower for the 4100. They are a neat little tractor in their place, but I think the circimstances being as they are I'd pass and put the 10,000. toward sometning a bit more husky for backhoe use. I get real cautious when someone tells me how with just bigger a hose here and a valve there she will work just fine. Frank. ....
