I have a JD STX30 riding mower and the belt appears fairly loose (mower deck belt). I cannot find the length of the belt in the manual and the previous owner has said the belt is new, but I want to make sure it is not a belt for a STX38. Does anyone have the length of the belt, and/or can let me know how tight it should be?
The belt is almost falling off when the deck is in the lowest position, a little taught in the upermost position. The tensioner doesn't really make it tight at all. Thanks!

Is it a John Deere belt? If so a call to the parts dept. at a Deere dealer, they will check the part number for you. Most Deere decks have a decal somewhere on top of the deck detailing the route of the belt thru the pulleys and idlers, check that. Are the bearings loose in the blade spindle ('s) or the idlers? Hope this helps. Frank. ....

It's a john deere belt, but it doesn't have any numbers on it that I could see. I had the belt routed properly per the manual and all pulleys seem tight and spin freely as expected. I did put a belt guide on it, but I am not sure if this one specifically had one from the factory. I have not gotten a chance to test it due to my other issues. Thanks! ....

It should be a 1/2" x 104-5/8" belt on that unit.
Best of luck. ....

Always happy to help.
Any place that sells belts should be able to look it up for you. Double check it though, my guide has been wrong before!
Best of luck. ....

That belt should be a M41960 that measures 1/2" X 102.3". I don't mean to contradict Murf 'cause he is usually right, but it sounded kind of long so I double checked. Even 102.3 sounds long to me for a single bladed deck, but that is what I came up with. ....
