I am very tractor challenged. I purchased a used JD 4100 with a 410 loaded (approx 360 hrs) on ebay 6 mos ago. I have used it for everything but I just developed a problem. I noticed a small drip from the loaders hydraulic arm on the left side closes to buck. I detect a small drip as I operate the the bucket? It definately not a hose or a fitting but the arm itself-- Is this serious?
Also, what would you folks recommend for mowing-- Im thinking of buying a 60 inch mid mount thanks

The seals should not be leaking with the age and use it has had. Is there any warantee left? The seals are not that hard to get out and there is not that great of cost, but you need to have a little experience. It is easy on some to damage the seal on replacement and then be no better off than you were before.
If it is a slow leak you can live with it for a time, just keep an eye on you hydraulic fluid. Most of us have seen and worked on an old beater backhoe that had self changing hydraulic fluid, you added a quart an hour.
I would recommend a 3pt with rear discharge for the price, but it depends on your grass and terrain. My ground is hard clay and the grass is centipee so you can not tell where the wheels have been. ....

Before replacing the seals, you may want to look at the shaft on the loader hydraulic arm (polished and smooth looking) to see if there are any nicks or dings that could be damaging the seal. It happens. The loader on my old tractor leaked a bit. But that one was almost 40 years old. ....

Now for the mower part: what type of mowing are you needing to do? That will determine the best mower type. If you want to do tall field work, then a 3 pt bush-hog/flail mower would be best. If you want a finished look, them consider a mid-mount or a 3 pt finish mower. But make sure you have a mid-pto on your tractor before buying a mid-mount. If you don't have one, the price goes higher as you'll need to add one. ....
