Hi:
I have a friend who asked me to post this question.
He's not very involved in forums, and old school guy.
His 5 year old (2000 model) Kubota 7800 HST with FEL has recently developed this noise. It is intermittent, can happen warm weather or cold. Machine has about 850 hours on it. Press the pedal , move down hill its most likely to occur.
I heard it and attempt to describe it as "squawking"
The sound oscillates too at maybe 4 cycles per second.
He told me he recently changed all fluids and filters plus the screen. The noise stopped for about a month, then returned.
Before we trailer it to the dealer, I thought I would post this forum and see if anyone encountered something like this.
Tough to diagnose with text! Appreciate all sensible replies.

The squaking is most likely the low pressure relief in the hydrostat. As you described, it occurs most often when moving downhill, or as the weight of the tractor is working against the HST. What you could be hearing is the pressure relief valve attemmting to compensate for the tractor weight. The drive motor attempts to act as a pump, and the system is protected by a pressure relief. Does it happen in all ranges, or just high? If it happens mostly in high range, it is most likely the presure relief in the Hydrostat. I would recommend a dealer take a look at the machine.
Time really flies, I didn't remember the 7800 going back to 2000. ....

Most probably unlikely but just so you eliminated the possibility; have you confirmed that one or both wheel brakes are not dragging or sticking? ....
