i just recently purchased a curtis heated cab for my BX1850
The heater only puts out luke warm air and the temp gauge does not move above cold at all. The dealer tells me this is normal. befor installing the cab the temp gauge read in the normal range after about 5 min of running.I need heat as i am over 80 yrs old ,on oxygen and just got out of the hospital after an operation. Is this normal or is the installation done improperly?

Balliver,
If your cab has a separate heater core, it serves as a second radiator. This means that your engine now has two radiators to help cool it.
Place a piece of cardboard in front of your engine's radiator, blocking some of the air that is meant to cool your engine. This will allow the water going through the cab heater core to get a bit hotter, and supply more heat to the cab.
You will have to watch your temperature gauge to make sure you haven't blocked the air flow through your engine's radiator too much.
Here in North Dakota, I completely cover the front of my tractor with a canvas cover to keep the cold air from entering the engine compartment. My tractor never gets warm, even when completely blocking off the radiator.
Of course, it's about 20 below zero up here during this time of the year.

Joel,
Do they have electric outlets for car crankcase warmers in the parking lots like they do up in Winnipeg? I did not realize what they were for the first time I saw them when I was in Winnipeg in the summer two years ago.

On a BX unless the radiator is covered you are removing the hot air from the operators compartment. You should get it covered at least on the screen below the steering wheel or directly in front of the radiator. ....

Dennis CTB,
Most of our parking lots have electrical outlets available to the employees who work in the malls, etc. Nearly every motel has electrical outlets installed in the parking lot for the overnight customers. The local nursing home has electrical outlets installed for the employees at every parking spot, as does the local motel.
Back in February, Super Bowl Sunday, we had our lowest recorded temperature so far in 2007......at -42 degrees F...without the wind chill. No vehicle will start at those extremely low temperatures, unless some form of heat is supplied to the engine and battery.
My house was full of overnight guests for the Super Bowl party we hosted. There wasn't enough room for everyone to park inside the garage, nor enough outlets for everyone to plug in their block heaters. The next morning we had to plug in the Knipco heater and place it in front of each vehicle, one at a time, until we got all of them running. I had to bring the heater inside, several times, to thaw it out, as the fuel was gelling in the tank. It was after noon before every vehicle was started.
At -49 propane will no longer boil, and the furnaces go out. I've seen it happen a few times.
It gets a bit chilly here. hehehe.
