I have been looking at the sub-compacts like the JD 2210, MF 2300, and K 2300. Under the specifications it lists a limited Cat. 1 3-pt. hitch. What does this mean? The explaination I got from one dealer was that some Cat.1 attachments would not fit the subcompacts. Appreciate any feedback on what the limitations are.
Dave

I believe the pin size is for category 1 but the spacing between the lift arms is actually a category 0 which may require that you turn some pins inside on certain implements in order to get the lift arms on the implement. The other problem is lift height of the implement. I had this problem with my B-7200 which is one of the many reasons I upgraded to a larger machine. I think Mark H. had a website where you could order implements for these smaller tractors that fit them better. ....

I just traded my 2210 in last week for a 4115 mostly because of this. Now I do not know all the Technical things to explain it but the 2210 would not raise the implement high enough nor did I have the control that I have with my new 4115. On the 4115 if I move the lever a little bit the implement will move a little bit and stop, if move lever again it moves a little bit more and stops. On the 2210 if I moved the lever a little bit the implement moves slow but keeps moving if moved more it moves faster but keeps moving it does not stop unless put back to neutral.
I am sure someone will give a better answer.
The 2210 was nice but I thought over time the use of the 3-point for me would be better to up grade. So far I Really like my 4115. ....

I think you're describing the difference between a 3ph with position control and one without it but I can't put a name to the w/o type. Draft control is a third type of hitch.

A position control hitch has feedback linkage so it goes into neutral when the level set by the lever is reached--either up or down. They are handy for being able to set the max depth an implement can work and return it to that depth after an implement has been lifted. The feature is important for implements such as plows. I could do most of my work just fine without position control but I'd have to get used to having to return it to neutral. There is some advantage to the idea that the further the lever is moved the faster the hitch lifts.

If you're new to 3ph's you may not be aware that few hold down-pressure, and an implement can lift to float over bumps or when the tractor starts up a hill. It's the weight of an implement that holds it on the ground and the design that takes it into the soil. Both types work the same. ....

The only reason the 2210 lift is classified as "limited" is the vertical range (height) of the lift. The BX line had this limitation plus the lift arms did not have the horizontal range (spread width) to accommodate all cat 1 implements. The 2210 spread width is true Cat 1. The vertical limitation on both tractors is primarily because of the short stature from smaller wheels. I'm not sure if Kubota has given the lift arms more horizontal range on the newer BX but this was a key issue for me when I bought my 2210. The position control linkage makes life a lot easier on any tractor. ....

You might want to consider KIOTI, the CK20 has a "full size" (I measured a possible 30" between the lower lift arms)Cat I, and it has position control as well. Just another option. ....

THE LIMITED PORTION REFERS TO THE HEIGHT IT WILL LIFT THE IMPLEMENT AND NOT PIN SIZE. LIKE THE BX, THE 2210 WILL NOT LIFT ATTACHMENTS AS HIGH AS YOU MIGHT SEE ON THE 4000 SERIES. ....

mcgavic1:
I was explaining what a limited category 1 hitch was. I simply stated it had the pin size of a category 1 but the lift arm spacing of a category 0. They are sort of a cross between a category 1 and 0.
Also please do not use all capital letters as it makes your post difficult to read. ....

Kubotaguy,

You are correct, the arms are smaller on these units, i.e., the 2210, BX, (have not looked at the Massy), when compared to a traditional compact tractor. ....
