I bought a '04 Yukon. It has a wiring harness for a trailer controller and the harness has a plug that simply plugs in under the dash when needed. I took the old controller (2 years old) from my '97 Suburban at trade-in time.
The controller wires (4) must be spliced to the harness wires (5). Everything matches except the harness has a BROWN wire for "Illumination". I suspect it is for the controller panel lights.
It this wire (brown) necessary for my controller to work correctly? Or, should it be spliced to the 12V lead? Or something else?
Any suggestions?

Proceed carefully.
If you get something crossed up and back feed/short out the computer chip it could get real expensive. ....
