790 seems to have the lowest capacity in all compacts, can any body explain the real advantage in haveing high capacity on compacts, all the 4000 series have much higher cap, some are sized pretty close to 790. doesn't seem to be a real advantage to be able to lift something on 3pt that tractor wont be able to operate or pull effectly. so what is the advantage?

Good question. My 4100 will lift enough weight on the rear end to float the front end off the ground, even with the loader on the tractor.
My BX, despite its low 3 pt rating, will lift its own weight; 1500 pounds, more than the tires can handle. In fact I wonder if that isn't the limiting factor on some designs. ....

As long as the tractor does everything you want it to do, then the #'s don't really matter. ....

3ph ratings have as much to do with safety and liability as they do with the capacity to lift.
I think the 790 is a pretty light tractor but I don't know its wheel base, width, weight distribution or other things that would affect a 790's stability compared to other tractors.
There is a tendency for manufacturers to define ratings that are not likely to cause accidents without the use of ballast (since they can't guarantee that a tractor will be properly ballasted). This tendency shifts some responsibility for safe operation to the operator, which is maybe where it belongs.

What really exists in the industry is a problem of mixing apples and oranges. Some tractors 3pt capacity is rated at rock shaft lift arms. Some are at the lower link balls. Some are 12 inches beyond balls and some are 24 inches beyond balls. There seems to be no standard for rating lift capacity. ....
