My pull behind Earthway spreader is dying, has anyone used the Herd M96? Can it do a fairly narrow path like 10 to 15 feet?
Can you close the hopper from the tractor seat?
Hate to spend $450 for one of these, cheaper options?

Dennis, I know nothing about Herd brand spreaders, but, spread width is a function of a few variables that IMHO have more to do with the operator than the manufacturer.
For instance, raising or lowering the spreader, speeding or slowing the spinner and varying the travel speed will have a big effect on the pattern size and width.
You can use a baffle to limit the spread width, but it will affect the pattern, you will end up with an uneven application.
Best of luck. ....

Dennis, we have sold larger Herd seeders and they have always worked well. I haven't sold that model but the larger ones have given us no problems and they do have a good spread pattern.
A double gate will give the best spread pattern. ....
