I have a 96 7275 which also had a problem with engine mounts comming loose.I use this tractor in my landscaping business andit has not been taken care of like I would have liked. I had someone in charge of maintenance but it is MY fault for not keeping on top of things and I now have a tractor with very little compression.I have checked around my area and am surprised how little is known about this tractor at my local CC dealers.I was just told it would be $5400 to $6000 to fix it. Anyone have any better ideas since the tractor isn't worth much more than that. Thanks Bill

The most common cause for the lack of compression is either a timing, valve, gasket, or ring problem. It should be no "rocket science" thing to diagnose which and even all three should be no where near that cost. But then if it is a cracked head or block you may be looking at an new engine and that may be a high dollar item. I am finding out that CC parts are very expensive due primarly to the lack of after market parts. CC or MTD has a monopoly on them. ....

I sure agree with compman. I'd expect a $6000 estimate to provide detail of the repairs required some explanation if some repair is recommend rather than required. If the tractor has high hours on it, the idea may be that many things are nearly out of spec and just to do everything as long as there's going to be a teardown.
On the other hand, if the engine has moderate hours, nothing cracked or broken and compression problem is due to something like a burnt valve then maybe just fixing the upper-end would be a lot cheaper and there'd still be many hours of use left in the lower end. For a $6,000 estimate, I'd expect a bit of explanation along with the bottom line--not only what would be done, but also why.
