Don't know if you are still considering a CC, but I have owned a 7260 for 4 years and I think the tractor is basically good for light work. I am not sure about the product support from CC/MTD. My experience with the local dealer has not been ideal. Replacement part prices are sky high.

My 7260 came from the factory with three of those engine mounting bolts missing. It caused the fan to hit on the radiator shroud taking off about 1" of the fan blade. Believe it or not, the CC dealer had NO bolts in stock. Even with all the bolts installed and TIGHT the frame twists slightly enough sometimes for the 'new' fan to touch the radiator shroud. I think it is a design flaw. As far your broken bolts, they should be able to be drilled out.

The most common cause for the lack of compression is either a timing, valve, gasket, or ring problem. It should be no "rocket science" thing to diagnose which and even all three should be no where near that cost. But then if it is a cracked head or block you may be looking at an new engine and that may be a high dollar item. I am finding out that CC parts are very expensive due primarly to the lack of after market parts. CC or MTD has a monopoly on them.

You are right, but with a unit with less than 200 hours of normal use, I am supprised it should break. I thinks it is a factory default. I am working with a dealer who is talking to a factory rep. to see if they can do something. By the way I have been given a quote of over $600 for the set.
