rotary cutter and box blade sizes for BX22

What would be the recommendations for a rotary cutter (bush hog) and box blade for a BX22 sub-compact (22 hp - 16.7 pto).

Rotary Cutter: I am thinking 48" for rotary cutter (king kutter). Any reason to go with 42" for this tractor?

Box blade: I am also thinking 48" (king kutter or eagle line).

Appreciate any suggestions on size, brand, or other equipment. Will be using to clear and level (gopher turtle mounds) several acres in Florida (mostly sandy soil - no rocks).

Thanks

The 48" King Kutter works well on my BX22. TSC had them for 519.00 when I bought it. If you are going to do serious brush whackin' I wouldn't go any bigger. If you are just going to do rough mowing you could probably even go 60".

I run a 6'/700+ lbs. scraper on my 24 pto hp/ 3000 lbs. with loader tractor that has turfs. It's 1' wider than the tire tracks but there are advantages to wide ones. I am able to manage traction problems OK.

Generally, the heavier scrapers are per length the better they work. Light ones don't cut many soils very well. A 4' scraper for a 4' tracking tractor would be conventional but I'd look for one that's starting to challenge the 3ph capacity.

A 4í box blade is the perfect size for the BX series. I run a 4í Frontier (BB1048) on my JD2210 and itís just the right size. Any larger and youíll either run out of traction, or if you have enough weight to get traction, youíll run out of horsepower.

Taylor-way makes a whole series of implements sized to the horsepower and hitches of sub-compacts.

You can view them by going to the Rankin web site and finding Taylor-Way under vendors. Click on "Series 100".

I use a BushHog 48" Squealer with my BX2230. Power is not a problem.

My 5 acres are steep and rough in places and I have to mow with the lift at the top position and still snag the face of the cutter and bottom out in places.

Anyone know of a 48" rotary cutter with better geometry for a sub-compact?
