John Deere sells a snow plow blade attachment made for my 4100. Have any of you looked at (or bought) one? I expected to have to go to a Fischer Dealer or a welding shop to buy a front power angle blade but JD makes one. I am wondering if the JD is as good as Western or Fischer. The JD price is comparable (beleive it or not). I looked for it on the JD website but so far, I cannot find any information about it. Thanks in advance!
Kevin

John Deere has been selling the 54" blade with different mounts for a long time. This blade could fit the old 100 series garden tractors, the 300 and 400 series garden tractors, 900 series front mount mowers, 655,755 and 855 compact tractors and now the 4100. I have owned several of them with various tractors from 12hp to 18hp. I currently use one on my 655. Over the last dozen years I have pushed more dirt and snow than I could measure. Any tool could be overworked, but it is my opinion that if this blade isn't heavy duty enough for you then you probably also need a bigger tractor. I believe they are about $1000 complete (blade, mount and angle kit). I am not sure about the 4100 but I do know that on my 655 the blade mount does not interfere with the JD loader or the JD belly mower.

I had a Deere 420 large garden machine for 9 years with the 54" blade and it was great. Since then I have sold the 420 and bought a 4100. I later got a new 54" blade and the adapter hydraulic setup for the 4100 - very easy to get on and off - easier than the garden machine. Blade is plenty tough for plowing snow and pushing dirt/rocks. The problem I saw with what the Deere dealer wanted to sell me was the adapted skid-steer plow - way too much out front. I'm happy I stayed with the 54". Oh I did have a hydraulic leak becuase ice got caught next to a fitting and when the balde was turned fully over to one side it cracked the fitting. The dealer came out and fixed it no charge - that's the part I like! One last thing, go to a welder and have him weld some 1/4" or 1/2" plate to the bottom of the skids - they wear out fast if you plow on rough asphalt. Good luck!

Are all Deere 54" plows the same? I have seen some plows used from various Deere garden tractors for sale for pretty cheap (~$100). Can I just buy the Deere mount for my 4100 and use the cheap used blade to save quite a few bucks??
