I have a 790 John Deere and the "o" rings on the end of the
hydrolic rams will not stay in. The cylinders do not leak. I think they are there to clean off the big stuff so the
dirt doesn't damage seals.I push them back in the cylinders
and as soon as I retract and extend the rams there they
are sitting out in the open.
Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas on ways to make
them stay in place?

I am told that those O rings are only there to keep paint out of the system during manufacture. They are supposed to be removed during dealer prep. There was a thread in the last 30 days or so on the topic but it related to Kubotas, but I'd guess Yanmars/Deere are the same. ....

We normally do not remove them at assembly, they do continue to work on the ram from time to time wipng it down. They are installed to keep paint from geting in the seal area and eventually flaking off and causing a leak. As Mark stated you can remove them if you choose to. They are of no value to the seals within the cylinder than what I have mentioned. ....

I wondered what they did. I never knew they kept paint out, but like the tag on the mattress that said, "Do Not Remove Under Penalty of the LAW", I removed mine since they serve no purpose. ....
