Can't help with a source, but I have heard of people 'sectioning' buckets--sort of like a Model-A hot rod. The idea doesn't sound like too bad a welding job but there probably are issues that would go beyond amateur welders. ....

Brian, can you tell who made the hoe? I recently figured out my 46 hoe was made by Ameriquip and I got a 9 inch bucket from Gearmore. ....
