 Purchase of compact tractor

I am currently interested in purchasing a small(24-5-30 hp) tractor for our 8 acre farm.We have looked at the John Deere 4200, a Kubota B2710, and a 1997 Cub Cadet7274. We have heard that the Kubotas, for the past few years, are living off reputations made by earlier 1980s Kubotas and are not as strong or reliable as the old ones. Another individual told us that the Deere compact tractors sometimes have horrendous electrical problems. We are leaning to the purchase of the 1997 Cub Cadet. All of the tractors that we have looked at are Harvest Rentals with 10-40 hours on them. The Cub Cadet has only four hours on it. Any feeback would be greatly appreciated. We are novices in this tractor purchase business.

 Purchase of compact tractor

I recently purchased a 25 hp. New Holland (Ford) "Boomer. It is a TC25D model which is the delux model ( 4x4, hydrostatic drive, light package, etc.) I also looked at the orange and green tractors, but found that the New Holland offered more tractor for the money. I paid 12.5k for 25 hp., while John Deere wanted >$14k for a smaller 21 hp.I have operated it for 3 months and have come to love the hydrostatic drive. I was not sold on it before, but it will pay for itself in the future, and is a real time saver when mowing. I could not be happier with my tractor. Good luck and I hope you find a good one too!!

 Purchase of compact tractor

I have been researching compact tractors for quite awhile and have also come to the conclusion to purchase a Boomer TC with Kubota coming in a close second.Don't overlook the importance of your dealer. I am about a half hour from the nearest Kubota dealer and twice that far from the others. If the Kubota dealer would have made a better impression, I would have bought orange. I was impressed with the resolution that Farminglady got with New Holland, but I am sure it would not have happend if her dealer did not support her.Every dealer is different and you need to check them out as well as the tractor.

I own a 1998 Cub 7260 (gear, 4wd, 26 hp, 23.5 hp at pto). This modelreplaced the 7274 (26 hp engine in place of 27). Very solid, sturdy machine. I would do it again.

I have a question. My Kubota dealer has a left over L2900. He's had it for 2 years and it has 11 hours on it. If I decide to go with the Kubota should I pay nearly as much for this L2900 as a fresh off the truck L3010 with similar equipment?

I bet the person that told you the Kubota was not as reliable as the past was selling or at least involved with another brand. My experience is that they are as good as they ever were, with more features. I would not worry about JD either.
