help! My 3 point hitch lower links will not raise or lower. The oil level is up the filter is 1yr old. The tractor was outside in an unheated barn in freezing conditions. I put the 2120 ford in my heated garage for 2 days and tried to raise with still no luck. anyone have any ideas?

I guess we're dealing with the largest of the Ford compacts here. There can be confusion with 2110's because an older farm tractor also is called a 2110. It would be handy to know if there's a loader plumbed into the auxiliary system of a hydraulic block and to ensure that the 3ph is a position control type.

I think the first thing to solve is why the 3ph neither goes up nor down. There aren't many single failures that would cause that unless there's a hydraulic problem combined with no load on the hitch or a closed flow control valve. With the engine off, I would open the flow control valve and also move the quadrant lever to verify that the control valve shaft actually moves. I'd probably also verify that the 3ph still floats upward by lifting the link arms.

The idea here is first to figure why the 3ph won't lower before doing anything else. There may be no problem if it's just that the flow-control is closed but the linkage could be disconnected or the lift cylinder seized. I suppose there could be exotic failures in the flow control valve that could block all inlet and return passages from the cylinder but I'd address the simple things first. The problem of no lift can be addressed after the no lower is figured.

All this can be done without running the tractor. If I did run it, I'd listen for an open pressure relief valve, because a tractor shouldn't be run too long with an open relief.

I think Tom hit the nail on the head with his last comment about the pressure relief valve being stuck. It is not unusual for any tractor to have this problem, especially after extended storage. Rust, trash, etc, get stuck under seat.

I would also like to know if lift is stuck in raised position. If so, it is in the lift contol valve. Most likely the same situation exists as the pressure relief valve. In either case a simple problem relatively speaking.

I also had a 1710 shear a key on the hydraulic pump once.

the 1995 2120 nh tractor has a front end loader that works fine. the lower links are in the down position, and i can lift them up and down very easely. I tried the flow control valve back and forth, no luck. I called my dealer, he said rev the tractor and raise and lowerthe loader very fast, still no luck. also pick up on the lower links,nothing...my dealer is 2hrs away! thanks tomg and markl for your help..paulm

Definitely a stuck relief valve.

It sounds like the 3ph floats up and down and that the pump/loader system likely works.

If the loader seems to work normally, I'd operate a valve until it reached the limit of its travel and then hold the valve open for a few seconds and listen for the relief valve opening (a sort of screech). If that happens then the pump likely is good and the system relief valve in the manifold block are working normally.

I'm guessing that you don't have a manual or much hydraulics repair experience and all you want is to see if you can get the thing going without a trip to the dealer; so I won't write a bunch of 3ph jargon and diagnostics.

Again, I'm assuming that this is a position control hitch (there is only one quadrant lever). What I'd do is mover the diverter valve (a slot screw head on the manifold block on my 1710) to the remote position, which will only operate the 3ph. That will take the entire loader out of the system.

If it still doesn't lift I would verify the 3ph adjustments if a manual is available. If they're OK, I might try to shock load the 3ph similar to the dealer's idea with the loader. There are a bunch of safety precautions here and risks should be well understood. I'd probably put a load on the 3ph, while the tractor is running and the flow-control valve open and the 3ph lever in lift or neutral, I might jack up the load and then knock the jack out from under it or something similar. I might try this both with the 3ph lever in lift and in neutral positions. This isn't something I'm recommending anybody else to do.

If it's still no-go, some diagnostic info that would be useful is whether the lift stays up once it's lifted and the 3ph lever is in neutral or lift position. If no, then will closing the flow-control valve keep it up. If this gets it going, I'd change oil as soon as convenient.

I figured out my problem with the 2120 lift problem!.. The position control arm where it attaches to the control valve was rusted together. And the last time I lifted it broke the arm off the pca. I sprayed the area and loosend all the linkage and welded the arm back on and it worked fine.. Theres nothing in my lube specs. for that area? Again thanks for your imput... Paulm..
