 TC40D Tire Chains

1) Does anyone have a recommendation on what type of rear tire snow chains could be used on R4's TC40D? There seems to be little or nearly no room to add the chains between the Wheel well/fender and the tire.2) If there is a chain that would apply, does anyone know how effective they are since the chain would undoubtedly be rather small?3) If there is a chain that applies, where would one find that kind of chain to purchase? Thanks for the help and insight! Personal exprience stories would really be appreciated!

Try tirechains.com they have a varied selection of chains.
I just received a set of chains with the v-bars for extra grip for our 1000' uphill drive. I have not used chains yet. Last year my cub 7360 ss would slide down parts of the road, a condition i hope the chains will eliminate.
From the time i ordered the chains untill I receive them was two days.
The UPS man got his exercise lifting the boxes.

I think industrials and turfs are wider than ags, and chains sometimes have clearance problems with these tires. It would be good to find somebody who can say 'these changes work on this tractor with these tires.' I tried for my Ford 1710 with tufs, but couldn't find anybody, including my dealer. Fortunately I found that I really didn't need chains. I clear snow from frozen gravel with a blower and loader. There's enough traction without chains, and carrying a heavy implement on the 3ph helps. The tirechains.com site seemed pretty good when I was looking for chains, but I'd guess they don't have a return policy. You might get a dealer to recommend some chains and would be willing to take them back if they won't work. I haven't thought it through, but it's fairly common for people to reverse the right and left tires to gain a wider stance. Usually you hear about it from people who want more stability on side-hills. Seems like reversing the tires would also increase fender clearance. Reversing tires does put the valve stems on the inside and there is some loss of traction in directional tires such as ags. I don't know how directional R4's are in general.

I'm not sure how much different the clearance is on your tc40 than was on my tc29, but I managed to squeeze the ladder chains from tirechains.com onto mine with no clearance problem. The only spot that was quite close was where the links hook together, there was some left over chain that I tied to the perimeter chain. I was carefull and fed the chain around past the fiberglass, straightened carefully and tightened fully, with tires partially deflated. Then pump to pressure and watch them from time to time while plowing. I never experienced a problem last winter.

Just my two cents...
I have a NH-1320 HSD 4x4 with turfs. I purchased my chains from chains.com as well. I had to reverse my wheels to gain enough clearance between the side chain and ROPS inside the fender well. The tractor really does good with chains front and rear. I have found turf tires to be next to useless on snow/ice without chains even in 4x4. You wil find chains a very good investment if you move any significant abount of snow. Good luck.
