Ferguson 40 shifter stuck

Any advice for a stuck shifter on a Ferguson 40- I was using the tractor and the shifter got stuck in reverse, I have used the instructions to remove the hydraulic filler cap and move the gear successfully from reverse to 1st, however the shifter remains frozen. Not real convienient !

If you have the same design I have seen on a 155 I think was the model, there will be two shifters in transmission the gear shift lever fits in. When both are in neutral they line up to form basically a rectangle slot that is in full alignment with each other. That is the position you need the gears to be before reassembling the shifter. ....
