 overheating problem

Hi guys, I have a problem. I have a Kubota L2500 I just recently started using. I am having some overheating problems. It is very hot where I work (90+). I was wondering if you had any suggestions.

The first thing I'd belooking at would be the radiator and being sure that it is clean on the outside as well as the inside.

 overheating problem

Some tractors tend to over-heat when doing heavy work on hot days. It's possibly normal and then slower ground speeds may be needed. I wonder if it's making black exhaust smoke when it seems to be over-heated and if it blows out coolant?

There are some things to check. I think that using 50/50 coolant cools better than water alone. I'd keep the rad screen clean and the fins blown out and check the fan belt for tightness. I'd also check that the upper rad hose gets hot and maybe look for flow through the cap while it's at operating temperature and that the right oil is used. You might pressure check the cap and flush the system.

If these things don't help, there are some engine and fuel things to check such as exhaust obstructions and valve clearances.

Definitely check out the radiator and front grille for blockage. There have been discussions in the archive about Kubotas not coming up to operating temperature and I have to admit mine falls into that category as well (B7800).

In 85-90 degree heat, with 5' rotary cutter on 18" pasture grass & weeds the tractor stays at or below normal on the gauge.

I washed out the rediator and took out the thermastat and it ran a little cooler. I don't think having the thermastat out of it is bad for it but I am watching it close

Probably an unlikely screnario but be sure to establish that the water pump is functioning properly. The coolant has to circulate to do the cooling properly.

Chief's point should be the first thing to check--no flow no cooling. I don't know if it's true for all engines but for all the ones I've seen, with the rap cap off I could see the coolant surge when the engine rpm is increased (and the thermostat is open). A faulty water pump and several things could cause low flow and it'd be good to establish that the flow is adequate before suggesting more things to check. If you have the rad cap off it'd be good to look for bubbles in the coolant as well.

Removing the thermostat likely wouldn't solve a heating problem. In addition, when the weather gets cooler the engine may never come up to normal operating temperature, which isn't good especially for diesels.

Just a after thought here. B 4 U replace waterpumps, As TomG said check drive belt condition and tension. What is the condition of the lower radiator hose? Does it retain its shape when hot? had it been cut on the interior by a overtightened hose clamp and part of the inside rubber peeled away blocking the line?

 overheating problem

I know this sounds simple, but over 20 yrs ago, I had a
B-7200 HST....it kept heating up and the motor would stop.....I called the dealer out, and he said that it was nothing.......every time this happened, I would bleed the fuel system which took me about 10 to 15 minutes.....They told me it was in the fue system....and sure enough after I would bleed the system, it would start and run for about 30 more minutes while I was cutting......This was all in the summer....and it gets very hot here in the summer.......after about 6 weeks of this happening over and over again......I figured out that the motor was overheating and SEIZING-UP! it had time to cool off as I was bleeding the fuel system!....the fan belt appeared to be on tight, but was slipping and not turning the water pump enought to cool the engine!!!! They compression tested the motor and said it was in great shape....but I never trusted that mechanic again......I was the real reason I traded that tractor in on a new, at that time, B8200 HST....Which is now twenty years old.....SO CHECK AND REPLACE THAT BELT......
