These weights seemed low to me, I was expecting higher; I was thinking these were equivelent to the 4000 TEN Series JD's, these range from 1400+ lbs. (Small chasis) up to 3400+ lbs. (Large chasis) ....

I have the brochure right next to the computer. Kubota has a huge spread of lightweight tractors. You have to go to the 3000 series before you get to the weight of the Deere 4200-4700.
Some of the weight discrepancy is in the fact that Kubota makes a ladder frame tractor and Deere uses the more traditional and heavier construction where the engine and drive train components are the frame.

Mark, you are right about the ladder frame concept. The articulate tractors were the first to use it and it was first adopted to the smaller Ag industry by deere in the 7000 series and 8000 series. It allows for more options on transmissions with less design and manufacturing costs. So far they have been good and have had little problems. ....

Thanks for the follow up, my main concern for the weight is that my dad already has a brush hog he uses on an old Ford and if he gets a new tractor, it has to be heavy enough to handle it. I had sent him to look at a Kubota BX but the tractor isn't heavy enough. ....

Dunno, but a change in transmission type or special steering gear could account for the weight. The BX2200 grew 220# of steel frame when it got a backhoe and became the BX22. Is you tractor similar to the B21? The B21 is a dedicated backhoe platform and may have a heavier frame. ....
