Clutch sticks when first start up

I have a Kubota L295LT and when I first start it up the clutch is stuck and has to start while in gear. Does anyone know what causes it, how to prevent it or how the clutch assembly works in this machine?

Being the vintage of your tractor it would be safe to assume,{nasty word} that the tractor might have been stored for a period of time or just from the initial trip here from JA pans factory some salt air got into the clutch housing and has caused rust on the clutch shaft. You will need to split the tractor to end your problem and clean the shaft as well as the other sliding components. Many of these tractors all have a clutch lock to hold the petal in the depressed position which might help with your problem.

Art,

My L295DT had a new clutch installed 2 years ago in Vancouver, WA. I live in Gig Harbor, WA, about 1 -3 miles from salt water on any direction. It is a very moist climate and the clutch did not start doing this until this year. Could the climate here be causing this?

Old story but we used to be the east coast wharehouse for SAME tractors back in the late seventies and had about 300 of them in our yard from time to time. Those that sat for long with out use or movement did give us troubles. Later they had sealed the containers or switched lines and they were better. There should be a grease or slip plate type grease that should help control the problem but other wise use the lock down hook if you can.

This has worked in the past but I must make a note of CAUTION. If you can position the tractor against a very large imoveabe object such as a very large tree or some kind of wall. You can try starting the tractor against it with the clutch pedal depressed. In most cases this will break the clutch loose from the fly wheel and or clutch pressure plate. More or less the same principle of running a slip clutch in after storage. If the clutch breaks loose; store it with a one inch block of wood under the clutch pedal to hold the clutch off of the flywheel as the operator's manual calls for. This is not an ideal book solution, but is SURE does beat splitting the tractor in half if when is usually works. Just be VERY careful doing it. Also, in the event that you have not already done so; install the ROPS/seatbelt retro-fit kit that IS available from Kubota at cost.
