I've done some reading here about brake noises, and went to the dealer yesterday to get some new transmission oil, and the dealer said it usually takes 3 full drains/re-fills of fluid to reduce the growling/grabby brake syndrome to acceptable levels.

They said there is a touch of additive in the fluid that quiets the brakes.

Is there an additive so I won't have to spend $50+ flushing perfectly good, new oil through the transmission? I am sure ONE change is all the gears need, but two more just to get a touch of friction modifier to the brake seems wasteful.

I know limited slip/posi differentials use an additive to quiet their clutches. Anyone try it in the trans fluid, and does it work?

My 2005 CX with 1100 hours was doing the same thing. I contacted the previous owner he said "We never changed the axle oil".

I ordered 4 quarts of JD Hy-Gard, low vis oil and some of the JD friction modifier. Only took a couple oz added to oil change. Took about 5 hours of use to make the problem go away. ....

I changed my Trans Fluid yesterday (also the engine oil and adjusted my valves).

The brake is already lots better.

I am surprised when I asked at the dealer Saturday they didn't mention a friction modifier was available! The suggested three complete drains and refills w/ HyGard.

I was wondering if limited-slip additive would work, but if JD makes one, I'll just buy some next time I am in to pick up parts (My JD dealer seems to stock no CX utility Gator parts-just tractor, lawn tractor, and ATV parts). ....

I've had great service for parts for my 2005 Gator CX from greenfarmparts.com.

The Friction Modifier is called JD Pemo, item # is LVU11673. 12oz bottle is priced at $ 14.95. Only takes a couple oz, but well worth it, IMHO.

Also works in tractors with "wet clutches and brakes". So they say :) ....

Didn't see a response on the limited slip additive other than the Deere product. Have some left over from a 94 Blazer restore.

Same CX with a squeaky brake. I did change the rear fluids last year but the manual said nothing about an additive. Just hit 1200hrs so rear drive has maybe 200hrs. ....
